Freelance Marketing Manager for Japanese computer game market
Views Date Posted

Position Description: We are a localization house specialized in translating electronic games and with a client base that is quite widespread across the globe – Europe, North and America, Australia and of course Asia, as we ourselves are based in Taiwan. We seem to be unable to get a foot in the door in Japan, though. Japanese game companies, developers and publishers alike, do not react at all to our usually successful marketing strategies. It’s not that they don’t want their games translated - the European market is full of localized Japanese games – but we seem to miss either the right channels or the right method.
Japanese people as a whole often tend to be hesitant about contacts with foreigners, and more often than not this is the result of a lack of language skills on their side. All our communication efforts led to one single response, and that particular company told us that they were indeed interested in working with us, but since they had only one single person able to speak English, they were frightened about possible communication issues.
Thus, we are now looking for a native Japanese FREELANCE MARKETING MANAGER and PROJECT MANAGER with excellent English or German language skills to help us open the door to the Japanese market. Your location doesn’t really matter, but you should be able to communicate with Japanese companies during their business hours if the need arises.
Applicants would have following responsibilities:

- Searching for possible Japanese customers via the Internet or in situ

- Gathering information on local prices for translating, proofreading and voiceover services

- Communication with possible Japanese customers in Japanese

- Collecting data on the companies contacted and translating them into English or German

- Management of localization and/or voiceover projects involving Japanese customers

The ideal candidate would have a marketing background and experience as translator or localization project manager, but the emphasis would be on marketing. In particular, knowledge of local (Japanese) culture and the way business is done in Japan is a must.
