Are You Ready to Try Oshibana?
Living in Japan can be a lot of work and there isn't always much time for digging deeper into Japanese culture. However, not everything in Japan is hard work. The Japanese artform of flower pressing is one good example of a fun, easy and relaxing activity that will immerse you in Japanese culture and art while allowing you to make new friends and practice your Japanese.
If oshibana sounds like something you would like to try, then Aiko Mogi would be pleased to offer her knowledge of her craft. Aiko is the owner of AIKA- Oshibana Bouquet Company and has been teaching pressed flower design since 1985.
At her home-based studio in Kashiwa City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan, Aiko offers individual and group lessons. Aiko is open to teaching anyone, young or old, native Japanese or foreign born, however she teaches in Japanese only. Nevertheless, she is an excellent communicator and has taught non-Japanese, English-speaking students in the past. Oshibana is a visual art that requires more creativity than words, therefore even if you know only a few words of Japanese, but enjoy art, then there should be little difficulty taking a class.
An Introduction to Oshibana lesson for 2 hours costs 3,000 yen and includes greeting card, bookmark, fan card and flowers to start. Group lessons available and costs less per student.
