    Konnichiwa NANGI!
I would like to thank you. That was very help for my research but I had a few questions.
    1. Is it possible that the kunoichi had some of the skills ninja had? Or even if they knew some basic self defense?
2.Were there any short kimonos in the middle ages?
    3. Do you know anything about onmyo?

You see I'm writing a story for my audition to get into a school for the fine arts and it's set in the middle age. I had this girl who is a kiddnapped princess training to be a ninja and then when I went to do research I read your FAQ and since I decided I wanted to make my story as truthful as possible I thought I would look into this further.

please sorry for my bad english. I think is better if you don't accept what mr Nangi write,he is not studying ninjutsu or any kind of mystic or esoteric practice,he just read some book with distorted truth!!! there is a serious reason why the governments hide the truth on the energy practice, but about this you will have to search by yourself, the story is very deep and long !
is not so difficult to find something on the internet right now, please if you are looking for ninjas or kunoichi history, don't listen only one person or site,go and check by yourself so you can have a bigger idea of the situation,a lot of peoples still today in the 2010,don't understand the meaning of esoteric and energy practice so of course they will find what is more understanding for them...!!!
1-yes is it possible that kunoichi had some skills that ninja had,i am a ninjutsu teacher and you can se some pics about one of my kunoichi-student at: myspace/kaede89
you can find some pics of me too there! or go to my myspace/karasujin .
2: about the short kimono's i am not sure, but is it possible that kunoichi dress like that for differents situations.
3: Onmyo-Do was not really a religion. It was a science thousands years ago. Yeah, you can call it magic. It was based on the oriental astrology, almanac, various method of fortune-telling, and the mystical taoism energy-practice !
    have a nice day... ^_^

    Igagoe(伊賀超え)

In 1582, Oda Nobunaga was killed by Akechi Mitsuhide who used to be a Nobunaga's general. At that time, Tokugawa Ieyasu (The first ruler in Edo goverment) had visited Sakai in Osaka. When Ieyasu heard of the death, he thought it mpossible to come back his home in Okazaki (now Aichi Prefecture), because Ieyasu was allied with Nobunaga. The only survival way was to go straight to Okazaki through Iga. But this route had a very high risk. The routes was very dangerous. Anayama Baisetsu, Nobunaga's general, was mistalen Ieyasu and was killed by the farmers in the Kizu River. It couldn't be helped to chose the way to suvive. there were many Iga Ninjas who had hated Ieyasu. In the last year, many of them were killed by Nobunaga. Ieyasu ordered his general Hattori Hanzou from Iga to hire Iga Ninjas and Koka Ninjas. Ieyasu and his group were attacked by some Iga Ninjas who didn't obey. Ieyasu could run away because of Iga and Koka Ninjas. This escape was called "Shinkun Igagoe'' and Ieyasu's most dangerous moment according to the Tokugawa Jikki which was the formal documents about the Tokugawa family. Ieyasu had a rest at Tokuei-ji in Iga. So, Tokuei-ji was permitted to use "Aoi no Mon"(the design of the Tokugawa family ) forever and got a lot of land. (The picture is of an Onigawara, the biggest tile of roofs, with Aoi no Mon.)

I have read that the ninjas didn't eat any beans, meat, or onions, only grain. This was to reduce their body odour to make them better spies. Also, the ninja's maximum body weight was sixty kilograms.
