A friend and I were having a discussion on which would live better in Tokyo a English teacher or a Bussiness man/woman. If anyone has some insite on this I would love to hear it. Thanks.

Interesting question.

I guess it mostly depends on the type of person or how you view what you are talking about. You could argue that if you had a great deal of business experience and knew English, that you could make a fortune in Japan. However, I for one probably wouldn't like this as I am not really a business guy. I'd far prefer teaching even if it paid a bit less to business. Just the type of person I am.

From what I have heard though, both routes can make a good deal of money to live off of if you have a bit of experience and of course a 4 year degree.

You buss is kickin too! I was wondering because I want to become a business man I know english exceptionally well, and i was going to get my 4 year degree but there is a school where I live where you can get a 4 year degree in 2 years would that be a sensible choice or should i go for 4 years? But My friend is looking to become a English teacher and well he can tell ya the rest next time he posts.

if the two year looks the same as the 4 year education on paper, and you think you can handle it... you should definatelly go for the 2 year! if it doesn't look as good on paper, why not do the 4 years? school is not a bad place to be in my opinion.. lots of friends to be found, good times to be had and stuff to be learned... can't wait till i get to go back to school ^^

It looks just the same you just got to work harder. Where do you go to school at T.Mac?

On the topic of the 4 year degree in two years... Those usually take either an insane amount of study where you have no life for two years (hard to learn much when you are only focused on study for tests), or you end up with a pitiful cheap education where a school tried to cram 4 years of important study into 2 confusion, convoluted years that just look good on paper while you learned little.

You pay for what you get in the end no matter what it seems. Just know what you want to do, and do it as best you can. The "easy way out" is a farse... ESPECIALLY when it comes to education.

What are some "in-demand " bussiness jobs in Japan?

Personally my personality fits a job of a teacher more than a business person. Being a business person is a lot more stressful and time consuming, so i would much rather be a teacher. also if i wanted to go to Japan i would do it more for learning about japan, its culture, its people, environment, etc. So by being a teacher, I think I could achieve those goals easier, and while being more fun.

Also you could see a lot of cute schoolgirls in uniforms. :p :sorry:

i think you might be underestimating the work of a teacher a bit if you think it's anything like being a student..

you have to prepare lessons, homework, tests and take care of kids on your "free" time.. you have to correct tests and read&rate hand-ins...

it's not just going to a classroom and talking... it only works like that in GTO :p

if you want to study the culture and language the best chance is probably by going there as a... student ^^ (then you'd get to hit on those high-school girls aswell ;)

you should look for an exchange student program as soon as possible.. there are alot more out there than you'd think.. if i knew of all the ones i've read of now earlier... i'd definatelly have been in japan during my highschool years :(

True, I think a teacher is difficult also

that's a good point twisted mac....i make it sound that a teacher is all fun and easy, but i know it's difficult too. I have been a tutor for a while and it's hard work also, although it's not as close to what a teacher does, but i believe i have a pretty good idea what a teacher does and how diffucult it is.
