I'm sorry, I don't know if it's the right place to post this thread if it's not please move it to the more appropriate.
:hey:

I would like to know is:
What do you think I can bring from Italy as a present to my japanese friends?
:?

I will leave on the 5th of August 2004 so time to leave is near!
Think it like that: what would you like to recive as a gift from Italy?

I need most of all nihonjin feedback please!!!!
Thanks for helping!

Hmm...well bring things that are associated with your country. IE: I'm from Canada, so when I went I brought Maple Cookies, Maple Syrup, and a stuffed Beaver-Mountie doll. Extremely stereotypical, but my host family loved it.

yeah, probably something stereotypical could work... but I wanted to hear from japanese people too!

Problem with that is.. anyone on here who is japanese will most likely already be familiar with western culture, european culture etc. so they might already have known about this "stereotypical present" and will be less impressive to them.. so you'll get a "tainted" answer lol.. trust me if your japanese friends get something stereotypical to your home country they'll like it. lol

You could get them a book on the excavations in Pompeji - when I was there last year, they had books in Japanese as well :haihai:
Judging from the visitors in there, it seemed to be extremely well-liked by the Japanese.

Well, not the shirt :) none of my friends are interested in football! (well... me neither!) if you fly to tokyo(instead of swimming) take some gorgonzola and parmeggiano... a bottle of grappa to replace sake for a day or two... some amaretti... a gondola (miniature)... a ferrari key holder (or gucci or any well known brand but NOT fiat).
and last but not least, bring yourself as a typicacl italian present... (that is if you are italian...)
hell, never thought of that one !!!!

excavation of pompeï !!????!! that's not a very joyous theme. you'll find just about any other subject about italian history written in japanese in any japanese library.... it's not typicaly italian if it's in japanese... or am i wrong, again ???
yes, picture book about venezia or sienna, with very little text, even in italian only, without translation. just beautyfull pictures to look at.

ROFLMAO :D
just like children watching pictures!

Thanks for the useful suggestions byp
I'd risk trying to give some parmiggiano, that could be good on Japanese food too

Well amaretti may also work, gondola... ahem.... it's from Venice and I'm from Verona, but it may work too... :-)

Keyholder very good idea too!

Come on people, you're all saving me! :bravo:

happy to be of help

Well amaretti may also work, gondola... ahem.... it's from Venice and I'm from Verona, but it may work too... :-) well then try a miniature arena...
and/or a live recording of Aïda on CD or VCD. see what i mean ?????
Or maybe you should bring some aceto balsamico, japanese love aceto but dont have anything near the one you have in italy, but make sure you get the real stuff. (and it's good on permegiano, too....)
have a good trip
I'm out of suggestion...seems like i know more about italian specialities than you do
and i'm nowhere italian....

Well I have to say I thought about the vinegar but I wasn't sure wether they like it or not!
I'll buy that for the family I'm going to meet! :-)

I've been told it's very hot in Japan now... :relief: sigh......

Hmm...he just needs a rather large suitcase, shove a friend inside and voila! Instant gift.

Somehow I don't think that would work... :?
