I play alot of video games and watch alot of movies and so do alot of my friends here in the states and gangs such as the Yakuza or the Triads are often glorified in these materials. I was wondering what roles do these gangs play in real life and what are your opinions on them? I am eager to hear your reply.

So you are saying T. Mac if I (by the way I can't I am not Japanese) or someone you knew became a Yakuza or a Triad you would no longer associate with them beacuse they are now "bad guys" even though you knew this person for along time maybe the person is not bad maybe they just made a bad career choice i dont know maybe they didnt i can not tell you the benifets of the yakuza or anything like that. with something like the Yakuza you can't really call the "a few are giving them all a bad reputation" card... they're bad guys, end of discussion. They do something to get money and survive.. the fact that they are yakuza means what they do is not nice to other people... it's not like they work in a factory making clogs and are just mean to people... their "jobs" are actually all about making someone else poorer so they can get richer.. eeeevery single thing they do..

Oh well, putting you in jail is a kind of violence, too. In Germany there is something called "Gewaltmonopol", which means essentially that the state (IE its civil servants) is the only one with the right to use force. I surely see certain similarities between tax & protection money.

If I like somebody, or not, depends on the personality, not on the criminal record. I doubt that I would like a murderer, but it all depends on the circumstances, I suppose.

dude whoever you are I suggest you stop playing those video games and watching the Godfather. How are they different to me in the sense that I would go all out to kill them if they tried to kill me. I won golden gloves boxing in my younger days....I am a bodybuilder and with one hand could choke the regular man to death. I can fight and would be pretty confident in many a situation. There are many people who could kick my *** easily. But I am yet to see a "yakuza" capable of doing it. My brother in law has some "yakuza" friends who I have met a couple times. They practically get down and blow me everytime they meet me. Cause they are aware of what I could do to them. Sure they could come up to me from behind and stab me or shoot me. I could go up from behind Bob Sapp and knock him out with a baseball bat......but front on it would be a different story.

Showing something very disturbing, shocking, and scandalous on TV, movie, or video games gets more audience than something educational.

If Michael Moore made movies, that were about what school should have done in case of a shooting in stead of the real incident that was frightning or about what kind of security system and policies were being made instead of bashing the Bush administration, nobody would go see them.

The people don't like them and if you are labeled as being yakuza you are basically an outcast, its hard to get a job, get acommadation, own land etc. Back about 12 years now they passed anti-yakuza laws which has seen a decrease in their activity and alot of members reforming and trying to rejoin society - tatoos and lost fingers are close to impossible to cover up and people dont take nicely to yakuza.
