i've gotten a few j-penpals the last few days due to an add i just sorta placed on a site (got the addy from this forum.. somewhere) anyway, i've been getting atleast one new penpal / day since then O_o and they all happen to be japanese girls XD
i know you think i somehow made my add "girls only" or something, cuz that would be what this hentai baka would do, right? but i didn't!
anyway, this one girl, after a 3 mails she sends me a mail going "oh yeah, this is the mail to my phone"... and a really long mail addy.. now.. i get it.. i can send her mail to her keitai, sure.. but.. what the hell does she want me to start sending? i barely know her!
and will my messages even show up on her screen? i heard people here had problems with it...
is it so big to get your mail on your phone in japan that she wants me to do this instead of mailing her cuz it's "more practical"?... or do i keep mailing her *mail*? cuz as much as they advertise for it here, everyone i know gets their mail on the 'puter.. I as many others consider it more handy...
is she trying to tell me to send funny little snippets of crap on her keitai?
i don't get it, why do i want her cellphone's mail? :relief:
T. Mac where did you post this pen pal add?
As for the phone maybe it is more convienet for her.

I'm sure she can read it if you use the right encoding to send to her. I'm not sure if you read my little story/rant on that other cellphone post with my old j-epal who used a cellphone for email.
I think the encoding I used was Shift-JIS.
As mentioned, the phone may be more convenient to her. The one I had looked at her mail at school and stuff and nearly sent a reply (when it was short) to me fairly instant, and tells me she's on a break at school and what not... ^^'' Maybe just try not to send to large of a message, because I think charges for emails are charged by the size of what they send/receive, like for web browsing.
Yeah, you can get tons of penpals on j-g.com. It's mostly girls that are interested, I think, so you'll probably get more girls replying to your ad. If you know what's good for you, try not to reply and make friends with all of them. It's going to be difficult to keep up. ^^' Try to pick one or two who's reply sounds interesting to you and stick with it. You can always repost your ad later if you can't find a good penpal.

Do what she says. It's not uncommon to receive email on their cellphone, so just do it.

She wouldnt check her pc mail much, send it to her phone.
I had an ad on there sometime early last year and met a ton of interesting people, about 3 of which im still in contact with (many just drop off or go 'oh? not american' etc and lose interest). Met some of the people, and updated and got some more hits of japanese people who study at/near my uni and would like to meet. I get to play tourguide from this week :D
I used to have loads of Japanese penpals, either i got bored of them or they got bored of me.
Longest penpal i've had is almost 5 years. o_O
But yeah anyway, i think alot of Japanese girls like using cel-phone mail because their phone beeps when they get mail or something. My friend explained it to me once but i wasnt listening. :D

Maybe they just don't have enough attention, or want more. You know how the Japanese likes to dilly-dally around with their cells. Perhaps there isn't enough to dilly-dally around with. :D
Think about it T. Mac how would you feel if it happened to you if you and a friend were at a cafe or something and then...*BEEP* hold on I got an email from a girl-friend of mine in Japan.
*Notice girlfriend does not have to mean relationship wise.*

in sweden girlfriend=flickvän (girl= flicka, friend=vän) and the swedish word for it can only mean relationshipwise =P
so i'm saying that doesn't quite work here.. unfortunatelly XD

I often send my j-friends two e-mails, one to their computer and one to their keitai. They sometimes don't check their computers so often, but they'll get the keitai message right away. Don't worry about it at all! It's very convenient for them to use their keitai to do just about everything a normal computer can do.
I have to concour with this. I posted a pen-pal ad only 3 days ago, and ive gotten emails from like 5 girls and 1 guy. In my ad I said that I will talk to any age and gender and, so I have no idea why the majority of people who applied to me are girls.
I'm fine with that tho, but too bad I have a girlfriend already =/

I think that's because mostly girls are interested in studying English or some kind of foreign culture. In my University (of Hawaii), the gender ratio (from what it looks like to me) of girls to guys studying abroad is like 15 to 1. I would say this should probably be similar to online also.

Yeah, I've met quite a few people here on exchange from Japan and theres alot more girls than guys here.
Same thing in my Japanese class at uni, most of the students are female. I wonder why? Plenty of guys on jref are interested in japan (or more so japanese people :D)
hmmm strange, in my japanese class the ratio is about an even 50-50

We're talking about native Japanese students studying overseas, just so you know. Else, I apologize. :)
I'm sorry, i'll just exit the thread now.

I've seen Japanese girls who all got together to go to a restaurant, and while waiting for their food to arrive all 4 of them had their keitai out sending/reading mail. I've seen the same thing from groups of girls riding around in a car together.
It's scary. The "virtual" relating to people on the other end of the keitai takes the place of relating to people physically present. Even more scary since presumably these groups all had to agree to go do something together to begin with. And once together, they largely ignore each other.
I've heard guys at work talk about how "reasonable" their keitai bill is, since they "only" spent about 50,000 per month on it. (These guys gross about 10,000/day pay, by the way).
This nation of さびしがりや has taken to the keitai like ducks take to water.

Really? 50,000 a month!? Dang, that's quite a lot. Can almost pay for rent with that. :D
But that's still an interesting piece of information.

Nothing is more sad then seeing a couple out in a restaurant or walking around and they are just on their mobiles mailing people :S Its like a new high tech way of being anti-social
