Why is the Japan Bridge area of Tokyo called Nihombashi and not Nihonbashi?

("N" instead of "M")

Is it a mistake that never got corrected?

Thanks.

thank you for the address. will investigate.
TAJ MAHAL ?? yes, a beauty in this world. I went there, spent a whole day touching, admiring, investigating, admiring, measuring, admiring and admiring.
went back, and back, and back again.
had my purse stolen from my pocket, did'nt care for the $5 in it.
loved it each time.

Just a romaji thing. Another common one is kenpo/kempo.

The point is that it's either depending on which romaji variant you are using.

Can you think of any more 'high profile' ones? It can cause a bit of confusion for foreigners in Japan, I like Huzi-san :D

yeah, that one had my braincells in an uproar to figure out the first time.. just have to get out of our habit of romaji thinking and into the whole kana way of thinking i guess...

Thanks to all of you for your insight.

Obviously, I am not a Japanese language scholar or I would have known that.

My interest in Japan is in the beauty and the people.

Thanks for the help.
