Hello,

I'm planning to spend 10 days in Japan late September and like most of you, am travelling on a tight budget. Since it's my first time to go to Japan I would like to see as much tourisy places as I can without seriously burning a hole in my wallet.

Tokyo, Hakone, Kyoto and Osaka are on my list. Planning to spend 4 days in Osaka area and the rest in Tokyo. Can any of you recommend cheap accomodations that's close to JR stations and includes breakfast? I'm alloting Y4000/night (of course, anything lower would be a plus!) Is that even possible?

Thanks,
Eunice

By the way, I checked out the youth hostels website but it gave me the impression that I need to apply for membership first before I could stay in one??
Did I understand it correctly?

New Koyo.. Cheapest Place in Tokyo pretty much.. And for ten days I'd say it'd work out nicely.. Y2500/night.. Rooms are small.. but what more can you expect for so cheap.. Yup.. New Koyo should work for you. For Tokyo atleast.

i love new koyo myself (prefer staying there over almost any other hotel in tokyo), but i've noticed that quite a few other forum members are kind of soft and want the new koyo price, but not the new koyo life. op make sure to look at those pictures carefully. they are accurate.
regards youth hostels, try ttp://www.hihostels.com/openHome.sma
to find the yh organization for home country (or whatever).
here is
http://www.hihostels.com/performLocationSearchHome.sma?country=CA
shouldn't take more'n two weeks to apply for and receive membership
