Thought this could make a good topic. In your opinion, who is the most well known or coolest or your favorite Gaijin in Japan? I don't know many.. But I'll have to say me once I get to Tokyo.. Heh.

You need to make a fool of yourself on TV to be cool in Japan :D

lol i can't stop chuckling to myself about bob sapp. the memories of japanese tv have come flooding back.
i remember this family was concerned that the husband wasn't taking his prescribed medicine, so they told (i think) nhk who arranged some bob sapp therapy. (he's about 7 foot tall and built like a tank for those that don't know.) they put hidden cameras in all the rooms, and when the husband got home from work they secretly watched him. after dinner when he was supposed to take his medicine he didn’t, so bob was given the signal and he burst into the house yelling "KUSURI NOME! KUSURI NOME!" (he couldn't say anything else.) the husband was so freaked out :bravo: he went to call the police, but bob grabbed the phone out of his hands and snapped the receiver into two. :D lol, it was terrible. the husband still refused to take the medicine despite all this, which kind of stuffed up the happy ending... so the tv crew had to rush in and explain everything. even so, very funny stuff:)

I think you mean Pa-kun (パックン). I'm jealous of that guy, I wish I had his job!

Bob Sapp is this Big tall arse black American, who is mostly famous for his size and only famous in Japan. Don't think he wins too many fights in K1 though

not that i dont like him, but come on put some effort in man!

Yeah his Japanese ability is definitely lame. But I've meet people that have been in Japan for over 10 years and can speak Japanese as well as I can, and I've only been here 6 months. Now that's just stupid. How can you want to live in a country but not want to learn it's language? Knowing how to communicate makes life so much more easier and so much more fun.
And Bob Sapp ain't a very good K1 fighter either.

Well, Sapp beat Ernesto Hoost, a 4 time K1 champ, twice, and fights pretty well in Pride fights, but the best thing about him was his CD, "Sapp Time." Hilariously bad Japanese, mixed with a variety of real Japanese stars, plus a goofy video made this an instant classic.
If I were Bob Sapp, I wouldn't care about Japanese either. He scores major points because he's a foreigner who's just as weird as Japanese TV, and has an interpreter around all the time. When you are either training, fighting, or appearing on Japanese TV 300 times a year or whatever he does, that leaves precious little time to spend on language lessons.

Lay off Sapp! He's actually pretty intelligent for a washed up football player who was working in a morgue before he came to Japan. Plus, from what I understand, he doesn't go out much in public. That is, everytime he does he gets swamped by fans. Hence his lack of contact with much of everyday Japan, hence the big lack of language skills. I'm sure most of the people who surround him speak English, anyways.

You can stay in Canada and continue to suck up life all around you while I go to Fukuoka with my neon pink and turquoise trousiers! I'll sell the story to good old Rumiko Takahashi and make billions via royalties!

yeah true, thats fair enough. i can see how it would be difficult in that situation. if it was something he wanted to do he would learn japanese, but i guess its just not a priority for him.
i just think its a bit of a waste to be in a foreign country and not make the effort to learn the lingo...

I would have to say that Chad Rowan(Akebono) is the most famous gaijin in Japan. At least the most recognizable! Even now that he retired he is still on the TV quite often. And by trying his hand at K-1, that just kept him in the spotlight longer...even though he sucks at fighting! :?

Wow, I never knew his name was Chad Rowan... makes sense considering hes from Hawaii tho :P

I'd say the collest guy is the magician Cyril (called "Sero" in Japan). He iwas born in Los Angeles from a Japanese father and French-Moroccan mother. So he is American, but often comes to Japan and appears on Japanese TV.

yeah my vote is going for the sapp man.
Wow cool! A bragging post, lol.
I'm the coolest!
Everytime I met someone in Japan they always told me I'm cool.
Random strangers whisper "kakkoi" and "sugoi" to their friends with them when they see me.
People cross the street to get better glances at me.
I've been stalked by group of school girls, an old lady, and one drunk dude.
I got stares EVERYWHERE I went. (was nice attention at first, but got annoying after a while).
Strangers tried to befriend me all the time.
Jr. High School kid told me "Jaa ne" in a museum when I went out for a smoke.
Jr. High School girls waved to me when I passed by there school and giggled when I waved back. (My fiancee was with me and says it's because I'm cool)
My fiancee tells me I'm cool every so often, and worries that when I meet her friends they will try to ask me out even if shes sitting there with me.
She constantly fears that girls will ask me out.
Her brothers think I'm cool yet I've never had a conversation with them.
The hype her brothers give me about being cool has made her parents very anxious to meet me.
P.S. This is not BS and it all happened within 1 month in Japan. It's my cool adventure ^_^
