Crime in Japan

is there much crime in japan? I have been there and didnt notice anything. And i hear everyone saying how safe it is over there. But then again people say that about my country and i know its not as safe as people say it is. So i was just curious if there was much crime in japan? Or is it the usual like many countrys with crime?
