Damn, you were quicker than me to post it. Anyway, I'd like to discuss some of the comments that go with it.

Nobody actually sleeps with any client - that's not allowed.

That may be the rule of that particular place, but not of all geisha houses. Or what she means is that it is forbidden within the house's premises, but outside they are free to do what they want.

That would be totally different from what I have heard from friends who work as geishas in Tokyo's Mukojima (http://www.jref.com/practical/mukojima_geisha.shtml) district. That is also is sharp contrast to hostess bars, where not only do hostesses usually give their phone numbers, and often go out to restaurants, karaoke or even trips with their customers outside working hours, so as to make them come back (hostesses get bonuses for returning customers calling them). After all, geisha is just a form of (upmarket) hosting.

Tough habits die hard. :( If you think about keeping up the population in this country then maybe it's a good idea to have two wives.Why is it that when life was shorter, women were more eager to have children?

I think that their wives send their husbands because they know what is going on - some of them have been to our parties so they know it's kind of safe.
