Yea the one with Kitano was great, just watched the other day. But I saw that there is a version from the 60's (1966 I believe) does anyone know if it's good? Is the poster posted above from this older version, when I first saw it I thought the guy looked a little bit like Eric Cantonna

HAHAHA! Yeah, I can see the resemblance!!! :D YOu can also see up his dress (almost) hahaha...quite an unfortunate picture!! :D

I think the picture is from the older version of Zatoichi. The series zatoichi was very popular in Japan in 1970s I think???. :?

IFC channel played almost all the old films last Summer, and they are truly a joy. Shintaro Katsu is amazing in the title role. Some company called Momii has a boxed set of DVD's that includes some of the TV series, and titles that I haven't seen. Hmmmm

Beat's remake was rather good. At first my sons and I were confused by the rhythmic percussive dance elements...wait a minute, I'm still confused.

I was smiling for weeks after the ending of Kitano's Zatoichi! It's amazing! And that guy does kinda look like Eric Cantona!

I agree!! The scene style is fantastic. Combining a great scene with music...very creative!! I really like this style of making film!

The movie Zatoichi is very good imo. I like that the story has much changes in it and that it's not predictable. The action scenes are great and the music is well composed. :-)
