'T4' Producers Hope Schwarzenegger 'Will Be Back'
By Steve Gorman

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - He has his hands full as governor of Kah-lee-forn-ee-ah, but producers of the next "Terminator" movie are talking to Arnold Schwarzenegger (news - web sites) in hopes that he'll be back for at least a small role, a spokesman for backers of the film said on Friday.

Fourteen months after "Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines" had its premiere, development of "T4" is in full swing with the same producers aiming to start shooting next year, said Dennis Higgins, a spokesman for financing partner Intermedia.

Talks also are under way with "Terminator 3" director Jonathan Mostow to return for the next sequel, and he is overseeing the draft of a script by writers John Brancato and Michael Ferris, who shared screenplay credits on the last film, Higgins said.

The "Terminator" series ranks as one of the most successful film franchises ever. "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," grossed more than $500 million worldwide after its 1991 release, while "T3" generated $430 million at the global box office.

One question producers have is whether Schwarzenegger can tear himself away from the demands of state government long enough to return as the virtually indestructible, lead-slinging cyborg from the future.

The Austrian-born actor-turned-politician clinched a record $30 million salary to reprise his signature film role in "T3."

"We're certainly talking to Arnold and his people," Higgins said. "He obviously has a day job that he has to take into consideration. But we're talking to him."

A source close to the production acknowledged that it was unlikely that Schwarzenegger would be available to star, but said producers hoped that he could play a "minor role."

Schwarzenegger's personal financial advisor Paul Wachter said, "It is not even on our radar screen ... Arnold is signing bills." He did not rule a possible cameo appearance but added, "Is it is realistic that while he is in office, he takes a starring role? Hardly."

Schwarzenegger, who assumed office as governor in November, has said he would put his Hollywood career on hold while in office and focus on the business of the state.

I dont think he should be back because they are going to fight in the war now and all the cyborgs are gonna be the skelly looking type so we dont need him -.-

Well, they could do one thing. If the writers want to tie the film in with the first, they could have some sort of scene where the T-800 is activated and programmed for its mission. That would be the only thing I could think of. Other than that, it would be much cooler to see what other models looked like in the future. Nothing against Arnold, but he has done quite a bit already for the franchise.

I'd prefer he go back to the movies. I liked him as an actor, but he should stop trying to be a Governor--especially of the state I live in...

...I thought we'd learned our lesson with Reagan. :p

I really hope Arnold comes back for T4. I love the Terminator series. It just wouldn't be the same without him.

having a terminator movie without arnie is ridiculous. in fact, the whole plot of the terminator movies when considered as a whole is ridiculous. in T2 the terminators couldnt have built in weapons, but now they can? well why the f*ck didnt they send one that had built in weapons in the first place?!?

I agree, but I doubt Arnold will be starring in a possible T4 when he has other "duties"...

Do you know the "full" story of how the movies are bound together storywise?

The "new" terminator i T3 is a "prototype" as I recall it. There is only one and it seems logical that they would not sent this "prototype" as first resort.

But actually is is a stupid conversation because many does not see T3 as a movie which should be seen in context with the sequals. T3 is a spin off and does not follow the "terminator" storyline proberly.

A terminator film without Arnold could easy fit in with the plot, but yeah...maybe it whould not fit in because every single terminator movie includes Arnold so far.

But they have to stop using Arnold when the wheelchair makes it debut :-)

Nah, he'll just be an old, obsolete unit--with some kind of critically important data in his head and a flying "HK" style wheel chair...

...at least, I wouldn't put it past them. :D

I am curious as to why people see T3 as a spinoff and not a continuation of the series? is it because the Terminators were supposedly destroyed in T2?

'Cuz i've been waiting for years for them to say-- "Hey, remember that arm Arnold left in the gears at the steel mill?" It may not be as useful as an AI chip, but studying the circuit designs would doubtless lead to that little innovation sooner or later...

I have not found the page I wanted to show you, but if you try to read this you will understand how complex "The Terminator" really is:

http://www.mjyoung.net/time/terminat.html

Sadly this guy has not updated his website and continued to write the time line for T3 which have been released some time ago. If he had, you can be sure that his review would not have been a nice one.

But I will still try to find the original website I read, and which encountered me with the complex universe of "The Terminator" and why T3 sucks. The simple reason is because it messes with the time line, their are allot of flaws in the movie (regarding to what is possible and what is ridiculous fx how the female terminator controls the many vehicle at one time) and that the female terminator never has existed in the complete time line for "The Terminator".

I am in no way all knowing about "The Terminator", it is long time since I have been reading about this stuff.

I looked at that site, and I have to say that the guy's arguments have more holes than the plot lines he's discussing. It might behoove this guy to stop relying on D&D books and stick to actual science--like the parellel dimension theory from quantum physics that he wrote off as "completely irrelevant to time travel theory". :D

Schwarzenegger plans Japan trip

Sacramento, CA, Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has said he will travel to Japan to promote California-bound tourism and business ties, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Sunday.

Schwarzenegger will spend 5 days in Japan, meeting with politicians and business leaders to strengthen ties with California's 2nd largest foreign business partner. The governor will also film a number of tourism-promoting TV spots.

However, some critics have said Schwarzenegger, whose career as a star of action films earned him a strong Japanese fan base, also faces several obstacles in enticing Japanese business involvement.

"I suppose if they did Japanese-language commercials with the Terminator saying, 'Come to California,' maybe that would work," said Steven Levy, director of the Center for the Continuing Study of the California Economy in Palo Alto.

"But it's not like he has the power to offer discounts to Disneyland."
