I know these ( http://www4.ocn.ne.jp/~tunasima/seihin/high/images/gakuran.jpg ) are called gakuseifuku/gakuran, but I've seen a longer version that looks something like this:

http://www3.ocn.ne.jp/~takahisa/photo/Tgakuran.jpg

http://www.sega-am.jp/studio_sega/cosplay/cloth/img/2-07gakuran.jpg

http://www.cam.hi-ho.ne.jp/morishita-t/sozai/gakuran.jpg

Are they also used as school uniforms? And mainly; what is the name of this long version?

Well, looking at the names of the pictures I'd hazard a guess of Gakuran ;)

I haven't seen one of those laughable things in years.

They're what some of the juvenile delinquints used to wear to make themselves look badass. That combined with a Bee-Bop High School haircut that sticks straight out in front like the bill of a baseball cap.

No, no school uses them as uniforms. The damned things are banned from campus.

Have a look at the age of the photos, NO school uses them, if you turn up to school wearing one you'd have your arse kicked and be told to change (plus you'd be laughed at).

haha ownedName the school.

I'm guessing one of the following...
a) You quoted the wrong post.
b) You mis-interpreted who the post you quoted was aimed at.
c) You don't know what "haha owned" means (though that doesn't seem very plausible :? )

[Man I'm bored today. :souka: ]

Now I really want a good explanation on how and why he owned me/the post.

I never said they own, I never said i would wear one to school or something like that. :p

I'm just as confused as you are, chiefen. I think it comes from you and I not knowing the meaning of "own" as a slang term. If someone would clarify it for us, I would appreciate it.

That's sort of what I thought it meant. Thanks.

Now we just have to wait for Timsan to clarify what he meant. Whether he thinks I "owned" Chiefen (which was not my intention) or whether he thinks he "owns" me.

PS

Have ages always been displayed here? Or am I just now noticing it?

PPS

And why do you have one black ball?

No, and I for one am glad I never put mine in. :D
And why do you have one black ball?
I got fed up with the micromanaging and fiddle of the rep system... and it's not at all just because I was pissed off that you had one more ball than me.

it's the no rep club... they're "standing up to the man" and "making a love revolution against the system"

I don't either, if it's any consolation to you. I certainly wasn't trying to "own" you in my reply.

> what is the name of this long version?

That long version are called "長ラン"(chou-ran). "長"(chou) means long(version), "ラン"(ran) comes from オランダ(Holland - 和蘭).

During the Edo era, among the Western people, only the Dutch were allowed to come to Japan. So Western clothes generally were called 蘭服(ran-puku) or ランダ(randa-->slang, jargon or colloquial expression of ran-puku) for a certain time after the Meiji Restoration. And school uniforms / clothes for students(学生 - gakusei) created in the Meiji era were called "学ラン"(gaku-ran<--- gakusei no randa).

> Are they also used as school uniforms?

A type of bad boys(girls) wear them. They hate normal uniforms, and buy "customized" versions at "specialized" shops(or get them from their senpais). I think this type of kids are on the verge of extinction in these days, but google shows some links of such shops.
