Favorite Anime Theme Songs!

As much as the show itself, the theme song to an anime series can help to really hook a viewer. Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order (hopefully, I've got the titles right):

1) "Revolution": Revolutionary Girl Utena, a song as stylish as the series itself
2) "What's Up Guys?": Sorcerer Hunters, a knock-down, drag-out rocker!
3) "Ai (Chuuseishin)": Excel Saga, a fave just for the goofiness alone
4) "Sakura Saku": Love Hina, another delightfully goofy favorite
5) "For My Loved One": Fushigi Yugi, a song that hooked me like the series had

It's tough to mention all the anime themes I like, or really pick a favorite... there are so many good ones of many different styles, so it's hard to lock in on just one. Many already mentioned here are among my favorite songs...

I figure I'll chime in with the anime theme song which actually made me start looking for Japanese pop/rock music outside the world of anime theme songs:

L'arc~en~ciel - "Blurry Eyes" (OP from DNA^2 TV/OVA)

I liked that song so much I ended up purchasing a random L'arc~en~ciel CD to hear some of their other music, which led to purchasing other J-artists based on other anime themes, then based on the music charts in Japan and from other info I could find... and now, many years later, my CD collection is MUCH larger and my bank account is MUCH smaller...

My all time favorite anime song isn't a japanese song. It would be the theme song for "Lain." After that I like the themes for Excel Saga (opening and closing are awesome and hilarious) and the themes for Witch Hunter Robin.

But let´s not forgett Tenshi ni Narumons opening song; Datte Daisuki Dakara - it´s soooo kawaii! Really a great song. If you guys haven´t seen Tenshi ni Narumon, you really should. It´s a wierd anime, but FUN! (Not as wierd as excel saga anyways...)

Do the 'Manga' (company) films still count as japanime these days? Anime seems to be a term reserved to 'younger' cartoons by mainstream US/UK media. Because I would say, in my opinion, Akira has the best soundtrack ever for ANY type of film.

generally, i cant stand anime music, i love anime, but for gods sake, put some real music into a soundtrack, every friggin time, at the beggining and of the anime, theres an extremely annoying and senseless ballad sung in bad jpop fashion, please, just give me good music, then anime would be complete:)

mm, i tottaly agree.. i haven't seen the anime, but a friend lent me the sound track and it's amazing.

i was beging to get a little worried no-one would mention the outlaw star ones and super drive (gravi), they're the best to me...
akira has an amazing soundtrack, and so dose ghost in a shell.

heh, but i have to be REALLY sad and pathectic... and say i actually really like the pokemon theam... *please don't hit me*... and shamon king... ...and beyblade >.< the english ones (haven't heard of any japanese ones...)... i know, i know, it's sad.. but that's me for you...

hmmm, i have to agree, ghost in the shell was an amazing soundtrack, but it was spacial and and non lyrical in nature. also, teh akira soundtrack was especially wonderfull, i still listen to it and sample it occasionally to put in my trance tracks:) but i dont think those 2 classify as "typical" anime soundtracks. :relief:

I have had "Ready Steady Go" from Full Metal and "Cruel Angel's Thessis" from Evangellion in my head for a long time. I just started watching Beck, and while the music in the show ranges from decent to pretty bad, I really like the opening and closing songs. The opening is called "Hit in the USA" by the Beat Crusaders, and the closing is called "My World Down" by Meister.

It's a fun anime about a rock group, so there's plenty of different variations of the genre within the show. Rap-rock, britrock, country, metal, it's all there, and I'm only on episode 9. Good stuff.

i can't really decide which one i like best but my favourite anime theme songs are *clears throat* Bara Wa Utsukushiku Chiru from Versailles No Bara, Hit In The USA by Beat Crusaders from Beck, I like most of the songs from Bleach, The World by Nightmare from Death Note, and Ride on Shooting Star by The Pillows from FLCL, last but not least I *love* the theme song for the Angel Sanctuary OVA a song called Knife of Romance by a band called Phl (i think). if you know more about this song or the band please send me a personal message because i would like to know more about them :)
