Does anybody know if you need a licence or anything? will people give you money if your music is good?

I don't think it's slang. It means playing music in public for money.
Of all the musicians I saw playing in public in Japan, I don't think any of them had hats or jars out or were asking for money. They were just doing it for fun. I think it's not customary to give money to buskers in Japan. It's just something that doesn't even occur to them.
Hmm, that's what I thought you were talking about, but I've never heard it called that before--oh well...

lol yeah well i want to do it for fun as well. So I don't really care if they don't give money. I think they will be amused by the fact a white person is playing guitar and singing in public lol. Okay my repoitoire... John Mayer, Counting crows, Matchbox 20, Bryan Adams, basically any song that sounds good. (oh and there are only 1 or 2 brian adams songs that sound good lol)
