Hi,

Anyone know if its possible to purchase a Kotatsu in the UK. I have seen a few available from the US and Japan on the internet but they are asking over $500 not including shipping.

Why not just purchase a heating unit and put together your own frame/top for it? I know they sell the heating units in stores around here.

Don't most have warning stickers on them saying something like "Do not put things on this heater unit or it will void the warrantee and explode into a ball of fire." ?

Actually my family still has one of the _proper_ heating devices made before people had all these new fangled safety rules. It's a small four bar electric fire with legs so you can stand it on its back as well as vertically. Know why? So you can put the kettle on it to boil, or cook toast. Hmm, boiling water over bare electric heating elements in the middle of the room - that's watcha need. :relief:

It has two different settings "Full On" and "Unplugged". Our dog once did her best to set the house on fire by moving her bed nearer the heater ... near enough to burn a hole in the fabric.

They are normally expensive outside Japan, so you should expect a high price..

Kotatsu are highly over-rated.

My in-laws use a kotatsu as the sole heat source in their home, and it is absolutely miserable to stay there in the winter time. They also don't believe in air conditioning, making it absolutely miserable to stay there in the summer time.

I bought my Kotatsu in Japan and shipped it to the UK. Of course I had to buy a step down power converter but it was well worth it. I love my Kotatsu and it's the heart of the family. Everyone that comes to my house and trys it out, loves it.
