Is it just me , or are Japanese people really sooo fashionable?? I was amazed with the styles all over the station on my first day. And ,it`s kinda eye catching that out of every three Japanese adults , two are colouing their hairs , one HAS to be bleached (if not both)
When I first saw this they felt like "Oh we are too cool for you so don`t even try to come close!"
But I tried approaching these kinds of fashionable people , and found out they are so normal and humble. They kindly help me when I am lost in the station or don`t know what line to take . And they stich with the Japanese sumimasen and bows ... I`m so touched! :(

So I came to a conclusion that it`s not the kind of "fashion" and "cool" dressing , as much as it`s a Japanese kind of individuality (My personal opinion) Exactly like the kind of spectacular dressing we see in anime , only , I never thought they acually did that! :cute:

But I still don`t know how do they look at us foreigners dressing very dull-ishly.... I wonder...

Ok that`s it!! Just felt an urge to talk about this! It`s almost one in Tokyo and when I`m hungry I do crazy stuff ~~~

Later!

It's just about clothes, after all, it can be nothing else.

hmm, I dress like them a lot. People here think I'm weird, but little do they know that what I wear is cool....in another country. v_v I am such a loser.

i think the japanese style of dress is is kind of rediculous at times, the whole "hip-hop" aura seems to be a big deal there

euros dress like owners imo

Heh, I personally dislike the fashion sense where I live. Then again I am in a rather conservative town. But people tell me my skirt is too short when it is four inches above my knees (the girls at school have thiers shorter). I also have THE lowest cut pants in town, and they aren't even hiphuggers. It is mainly 80's fashion with the odd modern moment. Some people pull it off quite well. But for instance, when I went out with my friends from school one of them wore jean shorts with a baggy green shirt, and mickey mouse suspenders. And almost all of them were wearing 2 or 3 shirts. Again, some people can pull it off fine. I really don't think I could, so I'll stick to my boring old band shirts and jeans.

it's easier to be fashionable in the city one is living in. carrying around a full pack, one wants to be comfortable instead...

Hehe. I like the fashion in japan too. :) So colorful, so individualistic. Unfortunately in Poland most people doesn't even care what they wear, or are so "stupidly-trendy" it husrts. :(

That sounds a lot like japan.

For every super fashionable person (who is generally following SOME type of trend) theres a clown wearing a banana yellow business shirt and ill fitting suit.

For me stupidly-trend is wearing leggins-and-blouse/T-shirt or leggins-and-skirt-and-blouse on the street. Fortunately, there is no much of such people on the streets here. :relief: But they do wear almost the same, and there is no difference between them. Believe me, mass-wearing-gosurori in Japan is much more pleasant for your eyes. :D

at this site (http://www.streetfashion.pl) you can see photos of conscoius people. the photos are mainly made on streets, but some on con (like the girl who cosplayed mucc). [you have to go to "gallery" and there "streets"]

I agree that in other countires , being trendy the "japanese ways" is gonna put you in the spot lights for praise/laughter. That`s why I admire japanese people ... no matter how trendy you are , they are not even gonna look :p

But about the "People who don`t care what they wear" Well , that seems to be it about trend in japan. Only , it takes much longer time to look this way for japanese people than from the real thing.

I quote from budd :"it's easier to be fashionable in the city one is living in. carrying around a full pack, one wants to be comfortable instead..."

I agree , and , I think I`ve noticed some Japanese`ees , even not being students , like to appear in the "back Packers" style. So perhaps , we students and foreigners , are but another japanese style our selves :D !

I quote DragonChan : "But people tell me my skirt is too short when it is four inches above my knees (the girls at school have thiers shorter). "

You SHOULD see Japanese school girl`s skirts .... (very very veeeeeeeerryyy SHORT!) Which remins me , is this even allowed at japanese schools ?? I mean I wouldn`t mind ,but I thought schools have strict regulations about skirt lengths .. (mine did , but ofcourse seeng where i lived ..)

I am thunderstruck that anyone could associate Japanese fashion with the expression of individualism.

You and me both.

J-fashion is one of the most rigidly controlled fashion styles in the world.

Oh regarding high school girls skirts. The girls hike them up after school as they know it looks sexy. At school they wear them lower.

When I first got here, even the high school girls wore their skirts below their knees. Nowadays, their skirts are so short that it leaves very little to the imagination, and even less when they're riding bicycles. From where I observe the world passing by, the height of my eye is about three meters above street level, so I'm looking down at most folks. And still I see tons of high school girl butt cheek. It's not like I'm riding in a Mini Cooper and sneaking peeks up their skirts. Hell, they've turned into a subculture of exhibitionists.

I was thinking the other day that way back when, when it came to Japanese high school girls and modesty, there were two modes: genuine modesty and false modesty

These days there are still two modes: false modesty and no pretense at modesty
