You have some great movies on there, but you need more Wuxia movies. Like "Lengend of the Condor Heroes", "Swordsman", and "Monkey goes West"...god I love that movie.

HEAR HEAR, the above-mentioned films are missing!! There are actually many good Asian films missing, e.g. the touching Korean animation Oseam, and many others (especially other action-based and thriller movies from Japan and Korea.)
Anyway, nice homework Jackinbox! :-)

It is too much hassle to mention ALL Asian films in list....so I won't bother looking all films up...too lazy.. :blush:

Some more information. Are these in the last 10-15 years ?

I think I ask that, because I haven't heard of these.

Their are two movies for Chinese Odyssey !
1. Tian xia wu shuang (2002)
aka "Chinese Odyssey 2002"
2. Xi you ji di yi bai ling yi hui zhi yue guang bao he (1994)
aka "A Chinese Odyssey"

JackInBox, Tetsuo is from 1998 so that's 16 years but all the rest are newer than that.
And I were refering to Tian xia wu shuang, the one from 2002.

Sorry for not writing anything more specific about the movies. But hey there's always IMDb?

If you haven't seen them, then do! Great movies. Every single one mentioned in this thread is good cinema. I would like to add 2046 to the list, but I havent seen it yet.. But I know it will be kickass anyways.. And same with Howl's Castle.

edit: Oseam is a given for this list. Really touching picture.

Some Wu Xia flicks:

A Chinese Ghost Story (1987 17yrs) IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093978)
Dragon Inn IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0105859)
Musa IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0275083)
The Storm Riders IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0165499/)
Zatoichi IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0363226/)
Twilight Samurai IMDb (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0351817/)

A little harder because many classics are way older than 15 years.

edit2: Added IMDb links to the list I posted.

I add this from Martin Scorsese
.....

Martin Scorsese said this is one of his top 10 movies ever. He was
on a movie show on TV discussing his favorite movies. He didn't see this
movie until the 1990's. So that is why its included in the "Best Films Of The 90's".

-->Horse Thief (1988)
(Plot: The story of Norbu, a horse thief, who is thrown out of his tribe in an effort to purge it of evil. Norbu repents after the birth of his son, but he is forced to steal again after the birth of a second son.)

--> A Borrowed Life (1994)
Director: Nien-Jen Wu
(Sega, a Taiwanese born in the years of Japanese rule, felt closer to Japanese nationality and culture than to the Mainland Chinese authorities who took over in 1945. The Japanese contributed to the development of the island and its social infrastructure, leaving behind efficient and popular education and health-care systems. Conversely, Wen-Jian is typical of the sons born to Sega's generation. Born and raised under Chinese government, their natural allegiance is to Chinese culture. They are inevitably mystified by and impatient with their parents' fondness for Japanese culture and rule, their bafflement intensified by all they are taught about Japanese imperialist ambitions and wartime atrocities. Tjos os a generational conundrum with no solution, doubtless unique to Taiwan.)

Looks good;
-> Musa (2001)

It's interesting that I would come across this now, after doing a search for Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (which I highly recommend, by the way: I saw it today, and it's really good). I saw Musa about a week ago, and I thought it was pretty good. There was some good action, a decent storyline, and a non-typical ending (at least not typical as far as the movies that I usually see). I enjoyed it for the most part -- my only real gripe being that I thought that the score was a bit off in places. I would recommend watching it.

While I'm here, I'll say stay away from Gojoe: Spirit Battle (I'm not sure about the subtitle, but the Gojoe part is right). I thought that it would be a cool period film, but it wasn't. I thought it was pretty bad, actually.

sassy girl/yupki girl - despite the lead actress' looks

My Sassy Girl drew its strength from Jeon Ji-hyun, whose craziness in the movie elicited guffaws from viewers. Rhapsody in August is a poignant film, which makes one (even me) think about love for country, and its ideals. I'd also add 'Graveyard of the Fireflies'. It's definitely more than an 'just' your normal anime fare.

ha Azumi was good, but it could have been alot bloodier...

and Tale of two sisters is Korean I think, not Japanese or Chinese

anyway, you forgot the best movie of all time ~ All Night Long 2:Atrocity read about it here (http://www.sexgoremutants.f9.co.uk/long2.html)

also a good movie ~ beautiful girl hunter ... but I think it was made 20 years or even 30 ago...

There's a new sequel coming up this March for Azumi. Its entitled as "Azumi 2: Love or Death". Just hope that it makes up for what the original's weaknesses.

i think my favourtie asian film would be the first one i saw (excluding kung fu movies).
The Eye. Probably not the best asian film, but i like it a lot and it probably has sentimental value!
I watched Public Enemy the other day (Korean) which was really good! both me and my girl loved it!

No Hero? Wonderful film, each story with it's own colour. Fantastic on screen. Beautiful story, filming locations, fight sequences. This is how epic films are supposed to be like. :happy:

Of the movies on the list I've seen Shiri, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Suicide Club, Battle Royale and I think that's about it..I really wish Moon Child were on that list...I also like this Korean movie called Dream of a Warrior or something like that, but I'm not sure how popular it was..I hope to see more of the movies on those lists, I'm sure they're all really good and I must say that I was really impressed with Shiri..it was soo good..it's probably my favorite Korean movie..it has good actions scenes and it's sad, but I still like it..I definetly recommend it..I was even able to find it at Blockbuster in the foreign move section..^^

Their are two movies for Chinese Odyssey !
1. Tian xia wu shuang (2002)
aka "Chinese Odyssey 2002"
This one isn't so good, but actresses are beatutiful.
2. Xi you ji di yi bai ling yi hui zhi yue guang bao he (1994)
aka "A Chinese Odyssey"

Hm, this one is very famous and popular in China, almost all young people knew it, some actor's lines in this film are so classical that many people love to quote them. As a whole the feeling is "laughing with tears".

I just finished watching "Last Life in the Universe" and liked it very much.

I think it is kind of a love story, but it's not something that makes you laugh from embarrassment like how most romantic movies are. Humor and sweetness in this movie are subtle, and it is very stylish.

Directed by Pen-Ek Ratanaruang.
