I really dislike this game...
Trolling are we?
That's fine--I'll just sit back and watch as the fanboys pummel you to death with their 20-sided dice...

Any actual information regarding the game......
Oooooooo why bother. I loved the card game thats about it.... :-) :haihai:

Well Escaflowne dude, I've been trying to beat this game for years. -_- The card game was a waste of time for me, but I needed to play to get certain items. I liked FFIX card game, it was more easier than VIII.

Myself I like the FFVIII, but not the card game.

How long did it take you to beat the last boss fight?

Oct 21, 2004, 03:39
The game is a decent rpg. Took me about 50 hours to beat while leveling most characters up to Lv 99
Final Boss was way too easy though.

Final boss too easy for you?! -_- I envy you.

Granted, it wasn't as good as FFVII or FFX, but still not too bad.

Final Boss is too easy it's simply mind numbing. Find a Hero Potion. This handy item makes you INVULNERABLE for the ENTIRE fight. And it's to ANY Physical or magical attack. If I remember right the final boss does a attack that lowers your HP to 1 hp. After that happens you take the Hero Potion and WHAM! You can't die. And to top it all off you get unlimited Limit Breaks too! I did that with Squall. XD

It's easy if you don't have the weapons or GF to win.
Use the card converted if you have the squall card and convert it to 99 potion XXX(the strongest potion, but I forgot the name) keep on using it for everyturn till you defeat the boss.
That's what I did.... :p

Why even play a game if its easy. In the beginnning the card game was hard but got easy. STory wise....bleh...to some degree.... FF9 had a good card game....but way too easy....Too bad ff7 didn't have a card game!!!! :D :balloon: And the last boss was pretty easy, if you spent hours then when you "FinallY" beat it you should feel at the least overjoyed!

i maxed out squall and zell to level 99 i think... (can't remember, it's been almost 2 years since i finished the game)
i've yet to defeat the omega weapon, though... man he's one tough cookie! XP

I really liked the game.
To me, the most important thing in a game are the characters and storyline.
If the characters or story don't interest me, the game becomes stupid in my opinion.
In FFVIII I really liked all the chacters.
The game was a lot easier as expected, but still fun to play.
The best about FF games are the stories.
FFVII and VIII really had a cool storyline.
I think FFX's story wan't very interesting compared to those two.
I never played FFIX :(
Sorry for my bad english

ffviii is a great game and the card game that comes with it is awesome
tetra master is better though...
but viii was great and look at the graphics in vii and then viii.....square did a good job improving them
i really agree with hiiragi though that if the characters and story are good i dont care what the games plays like or looks like bcuz it is worth flipping another page of the book to find out more of the story
the gf system is good and so is the job system i really enjoyd this game
I must be like in my own set little universe. I swear I'm the only person who thought FF VIII was the best overall Final Fantasy experience on Playstation. The card game was useful for obtaining items needed to build better weapons. The music was good, the graphics were bright and cheery and the junction system allowed for some strategy to be used.
Pardon me if I say this, but I must be the only person in the whole universe that thinks Final Fantasy X was overrated.

I didn't find anything wrong with this game at all. When it came out, it was new, fresh and revolutionary and I enjoyed the 3 times I played this game through some 5 or 6 years ago.
As for the card game, I really enjoyed it and I collected every card in the game woohoo! When I got the hang of the game, I was ripping out Same/Plus combos left-right-center. I thought it was a much better card game than Tetra Master.
Maxing stats in this game takes quite a while. I had to convert cards to items and then convert the item into it's final product whether it be Magic Up/Stength Up etc. After many hours, I created a godly team. There were no Spirit Ups in that game so I had to Devour Malboros and they don't turn up very frequently! With maxed stats, I didn't have to junction HP/MP/Vit/Spr percentage additions.
Square created a not so good super boss for FFVIII coz once you were prepared he was a pushover. All I had to do was make sure I got the Laguna card in Disc 3. Convert to 100 Heroes. Win the card back. Easy. And then, Limit Break the idiot to death.

I'm with Carth and Goggles. Ulty's not hard even without Heros (or Holy Wars, I think they're called--same effect on the entire party at once!), and you need Aura to get your unlimited limits. Triple Triad rocked--I was "suprfangurl" at the time, so I've got actual cards and everything. ^_^ FFVIII is easily my favorite FF since VI.

Jan 13, 2005, 11:58
Yep! About 17 times now. I beat it the first time without GameShark, but now I usually use it, just so I can enjoy the story without worrying about all the time consuming stuff (as I do with most RPGs I play).
As you can probably tell, FFVIII is my favorite of them all. XD More for personal reasons than anything else. I'll admit that it isn't the most groundbreaking or original in the series. Although, the music and CG is the best, in my opinion.

AH! You S.O.B you cheated with a game shark second and ....17th time. >_< FFVIII is your favorite game for personal reasons? Hmmm kissing a girl/boy while you played, dirty! I love game music and I have to admit....it did have some good points.

Hmmm kissing a girl/boy while you played, dirty!
Hehe, na. It's actually a corny, dorky story. FFVIII was the first PSX game I owned, the first FF I ever played (which led me to discover my favorite game series - Final Fantasy), and the first game I ever bought with my own money. Oh, and it got me into online role playing, which led me to find the girl of my dreams. :-)
Unfortunatly, she's gone now...but I can't bring myself to be mad at her. But this isn't the Relationship topic, so no more about that.
BrennaCeDria
Jan 13, 2005, 22:28
Actually, they don't kiss until the ending animation, and there's nothing dirty in it--just a cute, sweet, oh-my-god-squall-smiled *swoon* first kiss. And I was playing the game for the first time the at the same time I first developed a crush on the man that's now my boyfriend of five years (lived-with-him-for-a-year-officially-longer-unofficially-gonna-marry-him-if-he-asks), the "girl winning boy over" story in the game was perfectly timed to make it one of the best FFs for me, beat out only by Locke and Celes's romance in FFVI.
Japanimaniac
Jan 14, 2005, 00:00
Slightly off-topic...but I love the song Celes sings at the opera in FFVI. I have a save just before it so I can play that scene whenever I want.
Oh, and I think Star was saying it's my favorite game because I was kissing somebody while playing it, not because the characters kissed. :p
StarCrap
Jan 14, 2005, 01:02
The characters kissed?? When was that? Must be at the end of the game.....-_-

Yep, the very end. After the credits, right before "Fin".

Japanimaniac
Jan 14, 2005, 01:29
XD Well...let's see...have you tried using Arua magic on all characters during Ultimecia? That way you can use Limit Breaks pretty often. The best Limit Breaks are Squall's Renzokuken (and hopefully he uses Lion Heart, but its rare), Quistis's Shockwave Pulsar, and Irvine's most powerful ammo...I think it's Pulse Ammo. Just pummel everything, and keep your party healed.
I'd give you a magical strategy...but I'm the kind of person that super-levels and just destroys everything with physical attacks. :-)
i remember beating this game .i love this game :-)

At any level/junction, Japanamaniac's strategy will kill her in about 3 hits per form.
Japanimaniac
Jan 14, 2005, 09:41
Yeah, the only parts you really have to look out for is when you kill Griever (second form/battle), because he casts Shockwave Pulsar himself before going down. And when facing the fourth form/battle, make sure you take out Ultimecia's lower half as soon as you can target it, or her upper half will draw magic from it, then cast it. I think it's Armageddon...but whatever it is, it ain't good. Then just wait till she talks. It doesn't matter how much damage you do in between her phrases, and after she says "And...", hit her again. Voila.
Oh, and look out for that one spell that reduces everyone's HP to one during her fourth form. But there's plenty of recovery time afterwards, so it shouldn't be a problem.

Why exactly do you dislike it? Is it because you find the junction system too hard? The music is wonderful. As if the story. I'm not sure why you dislike it.

Jan 14, 2005, 21:30
Is it because you find the junction system too hard?
Anyone using this as an excuse HAS no excuse--that's what "Auto" is for. Auto junction atk if you want it to focus on your phys atk, junction mag if you want your magic power higher than the rest, and junction def if you want HP to get all the focus. Have 100 Esuna, and 100 Pain or Death, and those will automatically junction under any setting with the esunas under stat defense and the other under status attack 100%--only enemies that are immune won't take the effect. (Mas, I'm not refering to you, since you obviously know what's goin on.)
Japanimaniac
Jan 15, 2005, 00:20
You know, I have yet to use the junction system as an actual strategy. I use GFs and their abilities all the time, but I've never been compelled to junction magic, except for Status ATK and DEF. When you start messing with Squall's Elem ATK later in the game, his Trigger ends up doing less damage than a non-critical attack, for whatever reason. But then again, like I said...I'm not a magic guy, so the junction system never appealed to me. ^.^

FFVIII plagued me for 3 months mocking me, i still think it was over the top to fight 3 forms ( or 4 can't remember ) i only beat her because mysquall was junctioned out, but i found this ff to be too talky, ff9 and x-2 rock...

You fight multiple bosses at the end of almost every RPG (and lots and lots of other games, too). FF8 didn't do anything unthinkable. That's what makes the final battle so "final".
BrennaCeDria
Feb 9, 2005, 03:04
To prove Japanamaniac's post, a list of the FFs with "multiple" final battles. And this is just one series of RPG--the Lufia series and Lunar series at least both have multiple bosses at the end of each game.
FF4: Zemus/Zeromus
FF5: X-Death/Neo X-Death
FF6: Goddess Tower (Doom, Poltergeist, Goddess)/Kefka
FF7: Bizarro Sephiroth/Safer (Seraph?) Sephiroth/Sephiroth (this part can't be lost, however)
FF8: Ultimecia/Griever/Ultimecia junctioned to Griever/True Ultimecia
FF9: ...yea, aside from the Yoda quote, I didn't pay much attention to whatever the thing in 9 was.
FF10: "Braska's Final Aeon"/All Aeons/Yu Yevon
FF10-2: Vegnagun tail/legs/head/head/Shuyen

Let's not forget Kingdom Hearts! That had the most final boss battles out of any FF-related game I've played. Ansem, Darkside, Ansem again, and then the whole giant evil ship at the end.
