I think someone should create a japanese language learning video game. That would be awesome if someone could do that. But the greatest thing would be if someone could create it for free use. A person could start up from romanji and then go to hiragana and then to katakana with integration to kanji. They would go through various tasks to learn bits and pieces of information and there would be characters that ask them questions to test their japanese language skill as they progress through the game learning. Each time they complete a tasks they get a book of phrases they can test on characters in the game and they could go to shopping malls in the game and practice buying items. They could also go to restaurants and learn to order food in different type of situations. A japanese language video game with sounds and colors. I've always wanted to create a video game like this but i don't have enough skill. But think of the possibilities. An interactive video game where you can talk to characters and learn nihongo as you progress while still having fun learning and talking the language. The characters could speak to you in japanese and you could get a grasp for the foreign tounge they have. Of course something like this would have to be on a computer and perhaps it would have to deal with a 30 cd learning set. But it would be worth it in the end. If it could even put you in real life situations as going through the streets of tokyo trying to find a job. Or else you could work for yourself and beat down all the crime organizations and save people that need help most.

This is all of an idea/dream i had. I think someone should go to work on something like this asap.

I suppose this is suppose to be for learners that aren't native Japanese (aren't for kids born in Japan) and for people trying to learn Japanese as another language?
They probably have a lot of Japanese teaching softwares for teaching Japanese kids (like they do for English for kids in the US), though I don't know about for others. It certainly sounds like it isn't going to be free though if someone were to make it. I think your idea requires way more work than creating a good rpg itself, especially if it's going to be a "full-fledge game" rather than a simple learning software. I'd give props to whoever would be willing to do it without pay. This is years worth of work.

Try playing one of those Japanese typing games, it can be quite a good learning experiences.

And also some of them incorporate the elements from many popular anime titles.

The only problem w/ the typing games is that they romanize words in a weird way (to me anyway). I did pretty well the first time I played the Lupin Typing game. Anyways, why not try some relatively "young" RPG? They've got a lot of text, and often it's very practical -- a good learning tool.
