The Japanese for "that engineer is Spanish"

それインジニアはスプイン人です。

I'm not sure if it needs another particle and if so, why?

I think you need to change the sentence to something more along the lines of "Ano injini...." Can't use Japanese writing on my PC so I hope that came out right. Anyways, if the person talking about is both away from you and the speaker, you have to use are or ano and since you are trying to say "That engineer..." ano is needed. Otherwise it looks find to me. Someone that is fluent might want to check that though.

This means that I don't want to go putting in words relating to advanced things like psychological distance that I haven't learned yet because it isn't a fair assessment of my ability otherwise. As an alternative I was going to put

インジニアはスプイン人です。

And have the examiner assume I was pointing at said engineer.

It is "そのエンジニアはスペイン人です(Sono Enjinia ha Supein-jin desu)" or "エンジニアはスペイン人です(Enjinia ha Supein-jin desu)". :note:

If you have learnt 'sore' and 'kore', then it is a very easy step forward to learn 'sono' and 'kono'. Basically, both 'kore' and 'kono' mean 'this', while both 'sore' and 'sono' mean 'that' (close to the person being spoken to). The difference is that 'kore' and 'sore' are used alone: 'this', 'that', whereas 'kono' and 'sono' are used before nouns: 'this book', that book. So: これ, but　この本: それ, but　その本. Does that make sense? It should explain why Nangi used そのエンジニア, in contrast to your original それインジニア.

そんな心配はいらないとは思うんですけどねえ・・・

特に最近のＩＴ用語とかを見てると、確かに英語からの外来語が多いのですが、たとえそれがそうだとしても、 昔から使われてる、日本人にとってなじみのある言葉が今更完全に「消えて」しまうことはまずないでしょう。 例えばＥｌｉｚａｂｅｔｈさんの例を見るみると、「弁護士」という言葉が死語になって、「ロイヤー」という 、ほとんど聞かない外来語が一般的に使われるようになるようなことは少し考えにくいと思います 。

先進国の言語なら、外来語というものはある程度避けられないものだと思います。日本語も、これから段々外来 語が増えてきても、日本語じゃなくなることないでしょう。（これはあくまで、日本語の個人的な意見だけなん ですが・・・）

（もし僕の日本語に何か誤まりや変な表現があったら、ネーティブスピーカー（あるいはネーティブに近い方） に直していただけたら幸いです。）

Anyhows, I'm going to put the Sono one in and explain where it came from to mitigate allogations of plagiarism....

The gist of what was said is that Elizabeth asked about the use of エンジニア instead of a native Japanese word, and whether it meant that other specialty occupations would lose their native Japanese words, e.g. "doctor" (医者) and "lawyer" (弁護士). Then jt responded, basically saying that the use of one loan word doesn't mean the extinction of all native Japanese words. ;-)

By the way, there are plenty of Japanese words for "engineer." (http://dictionary.goo.ne.jp/search.php?MT=engineer&kind=je&mode=0&ej.x=24&ej.y=13)
