So I'm flipping through the movie channels at 2am to see if anything good is on before I go to sleep, and I notice an anime called Perfect Blue on the Action Channel (the very best channel for anime...and occasionally Showtime Beyond). The name seemed familiar, like I'd at least heard of it, so I ended up watchig the last half hour.

Well, it was weird. Beyond weird. Confusingly freakish weird. Has anyone else seen it? It doesn't come on any more this month, but I'm still kinda interested in seeing the whole thing, if it's any good. And I'm sure it might make a little more sense if I see the first hour along with the end. Hopefully.

Hey - if you want weird, try the Utena movie...

Yes!! Perfect Blue is really good. It is a very adult anime (not "adult" like hentai :D, but more...erm...."adult" as in psychological horror/thriller...not for the "little people" to watch.) :D

I really like Satoshi Kon's (the Director) works, and I could recommend other works by him:
Tokyo Godfather (which is very good, especially the dialogues)

I kinda noticed the adult nature of the movie when I turned it on and the main girl seemed to be dreaming about a porno shoot along with stabbing someone XD

Very psycho, and confusing, but also interesting. I liked it.
The race was interesting too :-)

Well, Satoshi Kon's latest work, Paranoia Agent just hit the stores and it looks to be just as weird as Perfect Blue. And for something completely fascinating by Kon, check out Millennium Actress. That's pretty wild too!

Paranoia Agent is good but not as good or as confusing as Perfect Blue. Although the OP for Paranoia Agent is really cool.

Paranoia Agent? I have never heard of it....what is it about? Is it worth watching? Compared to Millenium Actress and Tokyo Godfather?

Well, I'd describe Paranoia Agent as a psychological drama. It's not quite up there with Millennium Actress or Tokyo Godfathers, but it's pretty decent. I think it's worth your time.

Perfect Blue is cool!
My friends forced me to watch it, at first I thought it was something :okashii: , but after having watched it for 30 or 40 minutes?, it started hooking me.
There are some things which don't make sense, but I can say it is really clever and it is worth watching it.
In some parts it's really scary, it's kind of weird that an anime can scare hell out of you.

hehe, 100 posts :-)

Bought the DVD on a whim and enjoyed the film very much. I like the way evrything slips into place right near the end. It keeps you gripped all the way through.

Perfect Blue is one of my favourite feature-length anime. I just started watching the newest Appleseed movie, and I was put off by the cg... Perfect Blue is a great thriller, anime or no.

Pop singer Mima Kirigoe looks forward to a bright new career when she quits her chart-topping trio to become an actress. When she lands a role in a sexually charged murder mystery, Mina's life begins to fall apart. Reality and hallucinations merge into a terrifying netherworld where innocence is lost and dreams turn into nightmares. Quickly descending into a dangerous state of paranoid delusions, Mina discovers Internet sites describing every minute detail of her life. Helpless and afraid, she watches as her associates are threatened and killed by a mysterious stalker... (which is this guy: )

Hahahaha! Amen!

As for Perfect Blue, it's an excellent psychological thriller. I'm glad Paranoia Agent was mentioned in this thread. I love that series. It deserves a thread of its own, really. Satoshi Kon is so wonderful!

That movie was excellent. It was originally planned as a live action movie, if I'm not mistaken.

Apparently there is book. I'm not sure about a live action movie though. I can't seem to find anything on it. I lost my copy of this movie, so I'm incredibly sad. :bawling:

But this is a great anime to watch if you're sick of those "kiddy" anime shows.

WATCH IT! WATCH IT! YOU HAVE TO SEE IT! ITS ONE ANIME YOU WILL NEVER FORGET! I'm looking for the book though, anybody know where I can get one?

This movie really impressed me, it's actually probably my favourite feature length anime. I don't know what it was, but there was something about it that just sucked me in. The plot twist totally freaked me out though, seriously, I did not see THAT coming! And yes, Japanamaniac, it does make a lot more sense when seen from the beginning. You should try and catch it again some time.

I wholeheartedly recommend Perfect Blue!

There isn't a live action movie. They never made it. They made this animation instead. So you won't find anything about it that easily.

I heard somewhere that a live-action version has been made.
Maybe I should check my sources. Does anyone know for sure?
