I want to study Japanese in Japan, and have been thinking about doing that in Tokyo...

Questions: :-)
Is it very hard to afford to live there by only having a part time job? (to pay the school, a place of living, food, etc)

I'm thining about to apply to yoshida. Have anyone studied there? Is it good?
(Are there any other good universitys in Tokyo?)

Anyone have any tips for good schools in other cities?

Well... that's about it... for now.

Jumping in before the reply but... with no to little japanese your best bet for a part-time job would be eikaiwa, teaching english. But looking in your profile im not sure where you're from... are you a native speaker? Otherwise finding work will be a bit hard....

I've heard that you could get a part-time job when you know some basic japanese.
...I'll work in my own country a few months before I go, so that I have money the first months.

Or is it too hard to get a job when you only know basic japanese?

What type of visa would you be going on ? Is this the first step to enrolling in a Japanese university ?

I'm also in the process of applying to language schools in Tokyo and I can say with certainty part time jobs are illegal on a Pre College Visa, you basically have to be a top student to get any kind of exemption.

Check out this site, this the THE offical work on visas. Don't listen to the hearsay and get stuck out in Japan.

Can't work on a student visa, it falls under "Statuses of residence not permitting work"
Contact your consular general for more info on loopholes and other things like that :P

hi... i'm new here,
i'm rather confuse with this whole thing about working on a student visa.
theres way too many conflicting info on this.. well yea.. from the site Ewok85-san gave, student cant work on a student visa.

but the info i got from the universities in the education fair and also from the AIEJ/JASSO, you can work part-time for 28 hrs a week not more than 4-5? hrs a day, 8hrs per day during school vacation. (after you get permission from the school you are attending and from the nearest regional immigration bureau) :?

both of them are from a very reliable source. Meh.. maybe i should go and check at the embassy, but i'm too busy with all this damn uni project. So if anyone can help me clarify this, i would be very grateful.

That page is the offical Ministry of Foreign Affairs site. If your embassy says otherwise, then thats ok. In the meantime, the MOFA site is the word.
