Diru fans: Are you in or are you out?

Recently with the release of Saku, I saw Dir en Grey lose alot of fans and alot of bashing of the band appear. What I want to know is why is it so bad to you, if you think it is, why, if you no longer like them, want to put them down and bash them, possibly turning off new fans, and why if you were a fan before dont you support their new decisions in music?

For those of you that remained fans or are new fans and have yet to hear Saku, please dont be discouraged by others opinions of the single. You may dislike it and that is fine, but dont dislike it because others tell you to and dont give up on it so easily. I really dont find is much different from many of their other songs in it's amazing sound, both vocally and instrumentally.For those who have heard it and like it I want to know why you like it and what it is you like about it.

I'm a BIG Dir en Grey fan. Once I've decided to be their fan, I won't change forever.. No matter what I still envy them a lot. It is so sad to hear that many fan dumped them because of their latest album [Vulgar] and especially because of their latest singles. I've heard Saku and I really like it. It's true.. The reason?? I’ve listened Saku so many times. And my opinion is “Saku is so damn good!” Awesome music, awesome lyrics! Dir en Grey is evolving as I expected. The more I listen to Dir en Grey’s songs, the more I am given up to Dir en Grey's music. Kyo hitting those high notes is GORGEOUS. :cool:

I don't care what other people said bout them, I still love them.. Forever... :blush:

I really love their new single.. started from Kasumi... Well, let them evolving and give them freedom to create some music.. :(

I really sad when I read one review in one site that Dir en Grey really messed up with their new single. The single is suck. I so so so so SAD... :( :( :(

Of course! I love Dir en Grey! I became so upset when I found a site that said that Diru was only in it for the money!!! I t made me so angry to hear that because itsnot anywhere near true!! They love their music and it is the center of their lives!! Its the reason you don't hear much about what they do when they are not performing!! They hardly ever are!! I believe that even if they didnt get money for what they do they would still keep doing it because it's what they love!!
I am very committed to the band and loveto hear new stuff by them! Im alittle giddy right now because they haven't released anything new for a while, but I must remember that they are on tour and that htey could possibly just be working on a big album right now so I am not to worry myself!! I listen to Saku almost every morning by the way! Itssuch a good single!! :love:

I dont think you really have to worry about them disbanding, Jyuu Niikura, because I dont think that they really care if they only have a group of 5 fan girls still clinging to them, they love their music and will stay devoted to just as we are! Of cousre I wiil support them forever because I love them!!! ^-^

They are my all time favourite and I cannot think of a song they have released that i did not like!!! :cute: Its become an obsession that is so bad that my friends often get disturbed or annoyed by my rants...^^; they are just so great!! Very true they have grown alot. I find that alot of the fans they loose fall out because they are not only disappointed with their sound but with their appearence as well. As Diru began to be less visual in appearance (around the time of Vulgar) I saw alot of people lose intrest in them. I dont understand why thou because they are still the same people! But I guess the fans are changing as well....I kno that I will always be a fan!! :cute: They really did say that they were only in it for the money and I was so hurt to hear those words....Because I have never heard asingle thing come from Diru about money...In fact, (this was very funny) Shinya and Totchi once said in an interview that Kyo could nevr be anything but a vocalist/musician. True!! alot of the time members do get alienated, but it can be both positive and negative...I did notice that Shin-kun does get a large portion of the negative alienation, thou... I really like Shinya so I dont understand why. I think is strong and beautiful and often use him as my role model!! ^^;; But I also see Kyo get alot of it 2!! He is one of the reasons they say they are in it for the money. Alot of people dont like Kyo's current lyrics and the way he is singing. Completely in. I'm glad that they're evolving the way they are. First of all they're practically venturing into a genre (not exactly goth, metal, or anything else you can throw in) that hasn't exactly been covered by other bands, especially Japanese ones. Second, there'll be less fans [mostly girls] who only go to their shows because they're bishounen (pretty boy), kawaii (cute) and kakkoii (cool). They've been annoying me since the X Japan days. Music will be the [main] reason from now! I don't think fans dropped out just due to disappointment, but more to unpreparedness to change and novelty. I have to say though, today's Dir is not for the faintest of heart!

I'm not a big fan of some songs on Kisou, Six Ugly, or Vulgar, especially due to the "western" sound I perceive. They are also very guitarry and plain, I find.

I'm listening to Saku at this moment on repeat, because it's completely sucked me into the typical Dir melodic/heavy mixture (like in Myaku, Karasu, and countless others) that appeals to me alot. To top it off, I find Kyo's voice amazing, if not refreshing, when all you hear from bands is a monotonous murmur (Dir is also very refined, unlike very raw bands like KoRn or other American bands). I've found that Shinya's percussion skills have improved IMMENSELY too (I'm a drummer so I'm attentive to that sector in music), as well as the other members'. I'm looking forward to their next album more than any other band I've liked. Go DIR!

Personally I think Kyo sings better now and the lyrics have never been that non-controversial. So I don’t find it so different either. I read somewhere that people didn't find the lyrics as deep anymore. Machiavellism got the same critique.

I think you’re right when your saying some fans don’t like them anymore because they changed their looks, but Dir en Grey is still a rock band, so in the end it’s the music that counts. I totally agree with you :haihai:

I don't think their apearence are important, but yet, I'm a girl fan so I admited i like how hot they are :blush: :cute: and how original they can be sometimes with their clothes (not just on stage, but they have good taste in their regular clothes)... Im so glad you feel that way. I never said it had to be better I just said that some people havetaken it negatively...
Now, kyo and Die were asked about Gothic lolita and gothic music. Dir en Grey was never a gothic band which they made clear. And when askd their opinion Die said he didn't like it and Kyo said that it wasn't for everyone...If this happens to be what you are refering to then Kyo never talked down on visual style just gothic. And I must state again the Diru was not and is not gothic they were/are visual but not gothic... :blush: sorry for my rant!! ^^;

Their earlier stuff was a farce. It seemed that it was trying to be a lot harder, or more disturbing than it really could possibly be. For me, their music up until 6 Ugly was like barbie trying to be a biker. It just didnt work.

6 Ugly though, did it for me. It had a much fuller sound. They seemed to work together as an actual band, and a team for that album. The earler albums seemed that they each were competing with each other, instead of working together as a band should.

Nah there were a lot of rumours after the release of THE FINAL. People started saying it would be their last song, but it's better to check their official site for those kinds of things. If they ever break up it would be announced there.

I have never bought a single item associated with that band, nor will I ever. The cd's I've heard were through lives I've attended for reasons that DO NOT involve them directly. I've not spent a dime toward their moneystacks, nor do I ever plan to.

Just because I think they have improved, doesnt mean that I like it. Dont confuse my saying *6 Ugly did it for me* as my stamp of approval. Its the old saying 'No matter how many times you polish feces, its always gonna be a piece of sh*t' applies to them, when it comes to my opinion.

I couldnt give a shat from shinola if they're in it for money, women, drugs, or cheese. The point is I plain dont like them as musicians, for their outright bad musicianship, but I just noticed that while a scant 5 years ago they were autrocious, but lately they are plain bad.

To me, its not that they have gotten better, they've just gotten less worse.

On another note, any person that hates someone in music merely for the fact that the person is in it for money only, deserves a bullet in the head. There is nothing wrong with having ambition to make money.

Why?: Following the release of the album Vulgar, and the drop out of their usual and noted Visual Kei image, Dir en grey have gotten the short end of the stick. Now, there is a difference between Foreign fandom and Japanese fandom. Most of you will remember the critism that ensued over the loss of the kei image, as well as the crowd surfing ban. Go, [JrockNYC] and his reveiws at the current time, as well as his extreme outlook, are a perfect example of how bad it was in Japan as opposed to the US and other countries.
The state of decline in Dir en grey's fanbase was rapid and vicious, fans were reported to have sent the band letters demanding that they break, reviewists wrote Kyo off as 'tone deaf'. A huge percentile of fans were lost. And lyrics like this [R to the Core-Vulgar album] were lost on the few loyal, and the ones who'd turned.

Almost every song on the album speaks of betrayal and is an obvious ploy at it. Fans accused them of selling out. The fatalistic approach continues right down to Saku. Dir en grey appealed to the foreign fans after Vulgar, for most obvious reasons.
A recent supposed message from Kyo to the Japanese fans:

I couldnt give a shat from shinola if they're in it for money, women, drugs, or cheese. The point is I plain dont like them as musicians, for their outright bad musicianship, but I just noticed that while a scant 5 years ago they were autrocious, but lately they are plain bad.

To me, its not that they have gotten better, they've just gotten less worse.

On another note, any person that hates someone in music merely for the fact that the person is in it for money only, deserves a bullet in the head. There is nothing wrong with having ambition to make money.

I've liked everything Dir en grey has released so far, and their newest stuff is some of my favorites. They've matured over the years. I think the actual fans, who have been there through Diru's career, realize this. It's the newer people, who randomly heard an older Diru song maybe a year ago, who are like "What's this? This isn't the band I heard...". Granted, I'm one of the somewhat new fans, but I don't have a problem with the newer stuff at all.

And you might not like Saku, but I'd like to know who in this forum has the cajones to bash a song like Machiavellism. -plays it for about the hundred millionth time-

That's definitely the way it is with me. I've been with the band since the beginning and my loyalty hasn't wavered since. Dir en grey has been the most influential band in my life, for reasons all my own, and they have been at the top of my "favourites" list for quite a number of years, despite their evolution.

I find their music unique and versatile; there's a song to suit my every mood. I find the members very talented in their fields and I like that they experiment whenever they get the chance to. Of course, one of the things that has kept me so attached to the band is Kyo. His vocals and lyrics are the likes of which I haven't heard from any other band -- I don't know any other person who has written a song from the point of view of a fetus being aborted. That's the sort of unique material that I love...

Of course, I will admit that I wasn't all too fond of VULGAR at all (I DID like it, it was just near the bottom of my favourites list)... I thought it shallow and uninteresting. It felt as though Kyo's lyrical ability was being poured down the drain... until a friend and I began to start picking apart the songs and noticed patterns in VULGAR that weren't in any other album. It fascinated me... and suddenly I felt as though the album wasn't shallow at all. Through all the evolution the band was going through... I hadn't lost the Dir en grey that I loved, it had simply changed in ways I wasn't expecting.

I love that album now more than I thought I ever could, and I have quite an attachment to the recent release "Saku."

The loss of their visual aspect never bothered me much. Of course I loved seeing them dressed in outfits I would kill to have -- of course I loved seeing Shinya in dresses and Kyo with heavy gothicesque make-up on... But it never meant more to me than the music did. It was always just a bonus -- something I'd be happy with or without. It was never about the visuals to me. It was always the music.

Of course... Everyone has their own opinions on the band and the evolution... Everyone has their own views on the visual and musical asppects, and I respect those opinions and views.

Centigrade-J is actually a really good sight for translations, and explanations that are super confusing when translated (or even when not translated, lots of the time). And they have LOADS more than just Diru songs.

I also don't have KAI, but it's just remixes, and I've never worried about them, either. What I do own is: Gauze, Macabre, Kisou, sixUgly, Vulgar.

Only problem is that the songs on their singles usually aren't on their CDs...but that's what MP3s are for. :-)

I like Kisou...but you're right, it's not as good as the others. My favorites are still Gauze and Vulgar.

The only problem with this Hershey Park thing is that it's in August...I'm hoping it doesn't conflict with Otakon. I'm torn between A) dressing normal and seeing a definite J-Rock performance, and potentially meeting one of them, or B) dressing the way I want, seeing a concert which could be any kind of J-Music, and seeing a bunch of other japanese stuff. Decisions, decisions...

I'm aware that he's not the most excitable guy when he isn't on stage. That's not the point. That he feels that bleeding on his fans is the only way to make them understand what they're doing to him is encredibly ****** up. Even if the sole purpose of the bloodletting to shock everyone into a mass realization, he is going way further than is really necessary. The only people I've met who have pruposely caused themselves bodily harm did so as a result of emotional and/or psychological trouble. Something is wrong with Kyo, and from where I'm sitting, his onstage actions have just kind of... snowballed into actual bloodshed. I know he's said he's going to stop, and I think I can actually believe him. My only question is, is he going to stop the bloodshed all together, or just his own?

I'd add something of value to the actual topic of this thread, but I've thankfully not had to deal with any fangirls recently.

I havn't really herd their new album, but I think I understand both sides here. If you have been a loyal fan and loved and supported the band for a long time, then great expectations grow towards the new releases, and if you simply do not find that you like the new music, you'll get really disappointed ringht?
Remember that music is about music, and sometimes your interest grows in a different direction than that of your idol. You shouldn't pretend to love music you don't like, but if you did like preveous releses you shouldn't be saying that the band sucks either.
All bands, or most bands anyway, have good and bad eras and albums.
They play what they want to play, and you listen to what you want to listen to, right?
