I know there have been similar threads to this one, but I am always curious.
I think a lot of you guys have a really good taste in movies.
So, what are your favorite movies of all time?
You can only pick five of them for the rest of your life.

Here are mine:

'Stranger Than Paradise' (I've watched this movie more than 50 times and never got tired of it.)

'Taxi Driver' (Robert De Niro is one of my favorite actor.)

'Seven Samurai' (Just astonishingly amazing film.)

'The Professional' (Love Gary Oldman's intense badness.)

'In The Soup' (Creative w/ good laughs.)

Tell me yours.

Hey, I like this thread, misa! :balloon:

Let's see...

5. Gone with the Wind (seen it well over 250 times)

4. Bram Stoker's Dracula (love Gary Oldman)

3. The Professional (we have that in common...love Gary Oldman(again) and especially Jean Reno)

2. Muriel's Wedding

1. The Lover

Kirei,

Yeah! Gary Oldman is a fantastic actor. Have you seen him in 'True Romance' when he played a pimp?
He looked so hot in those dreadlocks!

Eep! Tricky question.

I'll probably wish I'd have put a different answer once I've said this, but here goes:

Harold and Maude - "The greatest love story of our time" (Mary in the film There's Something About Mary)
Monty Python and the Holy Grail - probably the funniest film I've seen.
Donnie Darko - I could never get bored of this film.
Battle Royale - Ah, it just rules.

I think those 4 are definites and wouldn't change and the 5th choice would depend on my mood or something. I'll go for Amores Perros I think.

My five all-time favourites are:

-The Life of David Gale (I love Kevin Spacey)
-Forrest Gump (I love Tom Hanks, and it is a sweet movie)
-Something's Gotta Give (a wonderful story starring Jack Nicholson and Dianne Keaton).
-One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (a classic!)
-American Beauty

:balloon:

Argh! American Beauty - I'm swapping that in place of Amores Perros. :D I told you that would happen.

jon,

I have never seen Amores Perros, and I just read the discription of the movie in my 'Video Hound's Golden Movie Retriever' (It's a really long name...). Made me want to see it.

Miss appolo,

'One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest' is an amazing movie. They used the reference of it on the Simpson's, which was pretty funny.

That's a tough one. I usually don't like watching a movie more than once because I feel I am wasting my time when there are so many movies (or series, or documentaries) to see that I haven't.

Maybe I'd go for comedies, at least those funny enough to laugh again and again. But they are scarce. I'd go for the 10 seasons of the series "Friends", which I actually watched twice (a rare exception).

The problem with comedies is that my sense of humour evolves, and what I laughed at 10 years ago might not make me laugh now or vice versa. But that is also true for other movies. My tastes evolve. So no answer.

I know what you mean. I usually don't watch the same movie over and over except for the ones I really, really like. That is why my list is filled with old movies.

Brooker,

I like the movies you have listed, too. I watched all of them except "Swingers".

Me too!! I also like Eastwood in "Bridges over Madison County"....ah...romantic!! :-)

AND:

I also like Clint Eastwood as the Film Director: Especially, "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" is quite good starring my fave actor Kevin Spacey.
The film is about society in a Southern state, and its people's reaction to a murder and homosexuality in general, as the trial against the suspect is gay.

Waterboys is a great movie...I watched it with my boys!

@misa J and Missy Apollo...I could've listed nothing but Clint Eastwood movies, but I thought that would be boring, so I listed some of my other favs! :p I especially liked The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly, I also like Pale Rider, Hang em High, Fistfull of Dollars, and Two mules for Sister Sara! :relief:

But then I also like Carey Grant and I like Richard Gere and Mel Gibson! (oddly enough I'm not gay though! :D )

COOL! :-)
The only "famous" relatives I have are all politicians.. :giggle:
However, my family and I have a couple of friends who are famous actors in Denmark, but they are not famous enough to mention here..... :sorry:
(they are only known in Denmark and rest of Scandinavia because of some few films and a big police/crime tv-series which is very popular in Denmark and Sweden at the moment).

However, I love Kevin Spacey and Tom Hanks most!!

Speaking of celebrities, I have seen Woody Allen filming his new movie in NYC; he had very old station wagon that he drove away in by himself, he had extremely white skin in summer.

I really like his movies, too.

This is Desert Island Discs DVD version isn't it? Five movies one could watch again and again is a very tall order. Let's try.

The Right Stuff (1983) - "Dear Lord, please don't let me **** up"

Manahattan (1979) - "I think people should mate for life, like pigeons or Catholics"

The Searchers (1956) - "That'll be the day"

Goldfinger (1964) - "No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die"

Mr. Baseball (1992) - "I need someone to tell me how to take a crap."

Sorry about the last one - but I'm assuming that I have to watch these movies for the rest of my life here in Japan. In which case I'll need my fix of "Mr. Baseball" twice a year to keep me sane - LOL I'm still actually waiting for the Japanese DVD release of this little slice of the bubble-economy life.

itazura na kiss: HOW could you choose Bridget Jones?? /that movieLs stupid.
anyways, my 5 movies of choice:
1. Ping Pong - japanese totally UNBERCOOL movie with Yo^suke G (heLs the MAN) The name of the movie tells you what itLs about, but donLt let the ping pong get you down, ILm not a fan of ping pong either and this movie still rocks!
2. Battle Royale cause itLs the best movie ever made!
3. Suicide Club - also japanese, ILll just tell you that it includes 54 schoolgirls jumping in front of a train and youLll understand why itLs a GOOD movie.
4. Go - japanese again, with Yo^suke G again. HeLs a really good actor and this movie is seriously good, about the racism in japan towards other asians... (Koreans)
5. A Nightmare before Christmas - Tim Burton is truly wonderful, and the world he created in all of his movies is about everything youLll ever need to watch. All of his movies are great, but this one rules cause the music is REALLY good and you can watch this over and over and over.

That was tough. I mean, there are soo many movies. But these five are a MUST see.

(please excuse my spelling, ILm a stupid Swede)
Thanks.

See, Mycernius, hahaha....that's exactly what Maciamo was trying to avoid....
Seriously, Misa.J, I think the question is flawed. And that's what I like about it.
It's really intimidating, like a guy on death row 5 hours before execution being asked who are the 5 people you'd like to talk to before you leave...it's just too much..makes you vulnerable and intimidated...definitely not for the proud, vain, or faint-hearted.... :D

I like to fool around and make mistakes.

1. One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest: Defiant Jack Nicholson, yay!

2. Nightmare Before Christmas: Excellent music and lyrics, better than the musicals! The Boogie man is still scary, and I love the recurring air of the rag doll! The film version of art rock!

3. B**** :one by the Cohen brothers, where the NY playwright comes to California and meets interesting people...John Goodman playing the friendly yet unintelligble madman...the hero ends up with a lady's head (the lover) in a box by the beach, but that's in the picture on the wall...this one's kind of like the grown ups' version of Alice in Wonderland. I forgot the title..

4. Mailman: A German film, a mailman keeps all the mail he's supposed to deliver. It's really crazy, but the story is so enticing, I wanted to own a copy...forgot the real title...especially the scene about the fake Nazi art collectors comes to mind...(anybody?)

5. *****: this has the famous scene where one of two guys, in his desperation to help a friend in dire situation pulls out the whole porcelain and throws it out the window at the villain...Fight Club was good, but I think this one was even better...again, forgot the title (help!)

EDIT: Can I add a sixth, Misa.J?
You don't have to answer that. I just needed an excuse!

6. Falling Down: Michael Douglas playing the laid-off defense engineer who pretends to go to work everyday just to keep mom happy...My favorite scene is when he goes nuts in a fast food joint complaining about the barrenness of the Whammy burger without lettuce and tomatoes, and points at the exaggerated photo (That's exactly how I feel when at a MacDonal's looking at the BigMac: it's not big at all, and doesn't have the tomatoes, my favorite vegetable)...and of course when he gets cross with the neo-nazi arms dealer...a bit sad at the end, but the betters scenes make up for that...
