What is your choice of alchoholic beverage?
Mine is bacardi or any sort of vodka I can get my hands on.
Why do I drink?
I do it to escape from my ****** reality every friday. What about you?

I wanted to start a similar thread too. I drink wine or sake (nihonshu) and occasionally also some cocktails. I don't really like other alcohol, especially beer, shochu or whisky.

In my younger days, I drank all sorts of alcoholic beverages, and I did so frequently and with great gusto, but now I seldom drink any alcohol at all. I do occaisionally imbibe, however, and when I do, it is with either beer, wine, sake, or cognac.
Beer is my alcholic beverage of choice -- why? because I like the taste of beer, and I like to get a bit of a buzz now and then. A beer buzz goes well with listening to music, especially live performances, sporting events, fishing, hanging out on the beach, sitting around a bonfire, having a few laughs with a group of friends, or just when -- dammit, I feel like tossing back a few brews.
I sometimes drink wine with a meal, but I do this to enhance the flavor of the food, and seldom to the point of feeling any hint of an altered state.
I love to drink hot sake in the company of others who like sake, and I find it to be a wonderful conveyance to transport oneself to a point of pleasant inebriation. Not blind-assed, knee crawling , commode hugging drunk, mind you, but just achieving that pleasant sensation of being slightly goofy high while still lucid enough to make sense in a conversation. You know what I mean, that state of mind when one is able take comfort in the chaos and see the humorous aspect of almost any situation -- now I try to do that when I am sober too, but sometimes alcohol enables that vision to come about a little easier.
The other category that I selected is brandy, specifically cognac. Although I only have a snifter or two of the delicate spirits a few times a year, I find it to be a most pleasant way to warm up on a cold winter night.
I prefer to leave all the other stuff alone, as in been there, done that, and survived the trip.

My alcoholic drink of choice? Beer! Mind you, I mean good beer. Not the watered down, weak-tasting urine that most people favor. Nosiree, only the good stuff for me. I LOVE a ice cold brew after hot bath. Or better yet, while I'm in the bath!
Secondly, I like to drink wine with dinner. I'm not sure why, but a few glasses is alway pleasent with a big meal.
After that, I don't mind the occasional wiskey or vodka.
That being said, I really don't drink that much.

My drinks of choice are beer (okay, Guiness is the only beer that I allow myself to drink, guess I'm a beer snob, :D), sake, aquavit, and wine.
TwistedMac
Dec 24, 2004, 15:11
aquavit
They carry that in america? O_o or do you have ties in Sweden?
DoctorP
Dec 24, 2004, 15:14
A good ice cold draft is the way to go!
With that said, I was like Bob, I used to drink most anything. Now it is strictly beer though, and sometimes Awamori.
In my younger days though vodka and rum were my drinks of choice! I still say that an Ice cold draft in a frosty mug can not be beat!

Whisky or scotch is my preference.
i liked alcohol a lot more in my younger days, like 16-18.5 but now i don't really like it anymore, i'll just drink sometimes with friends like a beer maybe, which i only like a couple of belgian ones, kriek and leffe, and maybe hoegaarden, then wine of course, maybe sm nice strong drink, but not like vodka, better tequila i'd say. That's about it, not much of a drinker actually.

They carry that in america? O_o or do you have ties in Sweden?Yeah, its fairly easy to get in the more larger cities. I've got ties to Norway and have visited Denmark and Sweden often :-)
LOL, I like this thread.
I am the manager of a wine and spirits shop. I have drank so many things that I keep going back to beer and cognac. A good Remy Martin on a cold night will do you some good. Or, if im in a beer mood, a Guinness or Samuel Smith Oarmeal Stout. Bourbon whiskey is big here so most people drink it...too sweet for me....

Dec 25, 2004, 11:20
Why? I drink because I'm an alcoholic and I'll take it any way I can get it. But I prefer, beer (I love the cheap stuff but will sometimes go for a Guinness), red wine (Merlot), Martinis (with plenty of olives), and good ol' Red Bull and Vodka (so I can keep drinking all night). Man, I need a drink. :gulp:

The sweet stuff. I like it better. Beer taste like water after a while. I don't like water. Wine is ok zingy but bland and annoying after a while.

I prefer sweet liquors like Bailey's, Verpoorten (egg cream liquor) or Limoncello (Italian lemon liquor).
With wine, I absolutely can't stand the dry stuff and only like the really sweet one like the Greek Samos.

What is everyone's favorite beer?
I am partial to 3 micro-breweries in Wisconsin; New Glarus, Berghoff (in Monroe), and South Shore in Ashland. I've been to all three breweries. Great stuff! I like to visit breweries, as I plan to brew my own when I finally settle down. The worst brewery I've been to? Miller, in Milwaukee.

My hopes weren't very high, but boy, did that suck.

I guess I'm the exception of the lot, but I don't drink any sort of alcohol, nor have I ever understood the passion people have for it either. I tried beer once, and only once, back in 1977 and hated the taste, never touched a drop of it since, nor have I ever indulged in wine or spirits. The strongest thing I've drank since that curiosity laced experiment in '77 was Jolt Cola. All things considered, I can live without the stuff.

Does anyone know Pisang ? That's a sweet alcohol made of banana and it's deep green. It's usually mixed with orange juice. It's originally from old Indonesian recipe, but a Dutch company manufactures it (Indonesia was a Dutch colony).

Banana liquor with orange juice? Sounds weird :relief:
Never heard of that stuff, even though the Netherlands aren't all that far here...
I usually drink dry cider because my body doesn't deal with alcohol very well ^^; Girls usually drink cider here (and I Hate beer  ) I could never imagine drinking vodka or something... Even if it's mixed with soemthing else, I start feeling sick pretty or get a headache quickly after drinking it - it's weird :souka: I don't like really sweet stuff either because it makes me sick.
Maybe the next best thing would be to drink dry champagne at all times? And eat strawberries. :emblaugh:
I don't drink a lot, though. I hate hangovers and I get them easily >_<

I had a long list of various drinks I got into before I finally lost interest in drinking anymore just recently. It used to take at least five drinks for me to get drunk, and I just drank away very often. :p
My husband and I brewed several beers, and most of them came out as good as or better than many imported expesive beer; we tried to copy a few Bilgian style which we liked the best. Home brew is a lot of fun with your last batch in your hand, but you need to be patient enough to let your beer grow mature, and sometimes it's hard when you have it right in your kitchen.
I have found seltzer to be very refreshing and a perfect substitute for a beer, and that is all I drink besides tea and coffee.

Am i the only one missing rum in this vote? Thor mentions Bacardi in his first post, but he relates it to vodka... :?
Anyway, my favorite is the Austrian Stroh Rum. It comes in three variants: 36%, 60% and 80% alcohol. I never drink it pure. Always with coke and that why i always get the 80% version. Simply because you don't need that much for it to kick in and so the bottle lasts longer. Yeah, I'm Dutch. :p
I only drink in company to get in good spirits. Don't see any point in drinking solo.

I literally can't drink alcohol - or eat food prepared with alcohol. I've got one of the 'alchohol intolerance' conditions (although I've been too lazy to track down which one) and tiny tiny traces of alcohol are enough to get me flushed and faint. :relief:

Hmm, here in Japan?
Beer, Sake, Wine, Shochu, Vodka, Whisky, Gin, Remy Martin
Yeah, truckloads of different types, and I drink more than my fair share of each.
Haven't been a drinker very long either, wasn't able to consume alcohol without feeling ill for a year before I arrived here in Japan.

Lucky... I drink a lot. I mean a whole lot, so it takes a truck load to get me drunk. My favorite beer would probably be Hefenweizen, but it has to be at a particular bar called Alex's. For some reason it is amazing there.
As for Liquor, I'd go with tequila. Cazadores is amazing if you get it directly from Mexico. I only drink reposado (rested; aged). It goes down so smooth you can barely feel it; just taste it. And I really love JD Green Label; best. whiskey. ever.

I am a guinness drinker, or, as I heard one Irishman describe it as 'Black Irish swamp water'. Used to drink cider back in my Teen years. I will drink ales of various makes, but not a great lager drinker. Of the spirits I am a fan of good scot malt whiskey, and of a good vodka. Got my taste for vodka after a visit to Poland. And of the grape family it has to be a red wine. Went off whites wine years ago and can't stand champagne, overpriced pop.
Worst beer I've ever had was Budweiser (American). It's like 'hello! Where's the taste?' If you want good Budweiser try the Czech original Budvar

Lets see... I like something strong, that way I dont have to taste it. just gulp it down.
I remember the first time I had a drink was when I was 18. I was at a party with my friends and they all thought I should try some of the vodka, so I took a sip of some vodka and coke... droped the glass and broke it. I ran over, grabed a glass poured it and downed it all before they could tell me that I was supposed to use a shot glass. I looked at em and laughed, told em it didnt even phaze me then walked over and fell down the stairs.

I hated the taste of beer or whisky until I went to Japan where I learned the fine "hobby of drinking" (as the Japanese call it).
I used to drink only beer until my metabolism slowed down in my forties and I started to develop a "beer belly" so I cut it down to one beer a day here in the US. However, when I'm in Japan I drink quite alot of Asahi Super Dry.
These days I drink Icehouse beer (5.5% alcohol) as it's fairly close to Asahi Super Dry. I used to like Miller Lite Ice, but they stopped making it. I also enjoy Wild Turkey Kentucky Bourbon 101 proof.
I also enjoy hot sake once in a while in the winter.
Before going to bed I usually have one beer and two bourbon and waters. Makes for some might fine sleeping. -_-

Bacardi and coke for me. I used to drink daquiris, etc, but they make me sick anymore, since I'll drink too much when they're around. It's much easier to control myself when I'm mixing it with cola, for some reason, although I haven't had so much as a glass of wine since last time I made myself sick on alcohol.
im german
heh, thats self-explanatory :D germany=beer :>
my favorite is Beck's which is also sold in the US. german beer is not that US low-carb-poop :) real beer
but i'm not really into binge drinking i think alcohol is either ment for social drinking or for it's special taste (when you drink a little to food)
they should make something that tastes and feels like alcohol but does not have the other effects like making you drunk or damaging your body so you can drink alcohol for the pleasure of the taste (for example a good whiskey) and feeling in your mouth

I don't drink. I find the taste unpleasant, and I don't like the problems it can cause (I'm related to a few social workers). Also, when it comes to things I like, I have zero self-control. So if I started to like it, I be an alchoholic in two days.

Where is Soju? I guess it would come under the rice spirits? Anyway... Im not sure that its my favourite, its just the most hmm convenient (?!) alcohol to drink here. Not bad mixed with iced green tea or Chilsung cider. So much cheaper than in any other country I have wished to drink it in.
Beer is ok, a little bloating but nothing beats it on a hot summers day! Its a pity because when I was in Cambodia they have a strong tendency to put LOTS of ice in your beer, I dont know if this was to encourage more drinking (because it waters down way too quickly) or just that it would get warm in minutes. Anyway my Cambodia experience also gave me a very weak stomach and possibly giardia, having drunken beer with ice that was not so hygenic.
Mekong or Thai buckets are good! Has anyone else had the joys of a night of drinking them? Do you even remember the experience? Has to be done however whilst travelling south east asia! There is something in the 'whiskey' and the red bull over there just isnt the same (think 10x stronger and uncarbonated with a little something else). Oh how I miss those crazy nights! All makes for a stronger Soju drinker though!
Ooh yeah, I like hot sake too, especially in the rain.

I guess I drink a little too much.
I usually have a beer with dinner, something light like Carlsberg.
At the weekend I drink a bottle of wine, my favourite is 35 South Chilean Sauvignon Blanc, but I like red wine too.
I'll occasionally have a nightcap of whisky, but that's pretty rare, maybe once or twice a month.
On special occasions I enjoy cocktails; my favourites are Cuba Libre and Scarlett O'Hara.
Oh, and as for why - it tastes nice!
