okie, my first recommendation would be Dir en Grey. i think you'll like them.

then maybe Moi Dix Mois, i don't really listen to them but i heard they are goth metal...

Maybe some of Hyde's music? From his 666 album? It's pretty rockish, although mostly in English, but meh...Like Masqerade, Words of Love, Midnight Celebration, et cetera, et cetera.

And that's really all I know, besides Dir en grey, since I'm still exploring the world of JRock myself and haven't dived that far in yet...

So sorry I couldn't help more

Though some aren't technically metal.

Acidman, Bloodthirsty Butchers, Concerto Moon, Magnum44, Anthem.

"Metal Inside" can help with a list of Japanese metal bands and their homepages:

keikaku.net's band links and jrock sites may be another source to explore:
http://www.keikaku.net/links.php

to some of the other posters: VK bands aren't the be all, and end all to Japanese music, expanding your play lists might be in order.

I'd love to help you out, but I seem to have some crazy, self-elitist god complex that forces me to ram my thought and ideals into everyone's brains. At least that's what I have been told. So I got something like a V-Chip inplanted that shocks me when I mention B'z in public.

So, because B'z offends others here on this forum, I won't tell you to check them out. In fact, the mere mention of them may throw you into a universe crushing tizzy that will no doubt cause you to yell at me.

So...

Check out B'z.

oops.

I don't think I've ever yelled at you and B'z is a good choice. Aren't they on hiatus?

B'z, definetely, and try Tak Matsumoto (his guitar is great, he is a member of B'z) and you may try Koshi Inaba too. :D (Yes, just try anything that B'z members done XD) X-Japan? (XD), L'Arc en Ciel (with Hyde as vocalist), Buck-Tick is great but I wouldn't call them rock. There is more to it, but anyway check them. Ah, and you may check Glay, Luna Sea or Pierrot too.

No, you haven't, so keep in mind this is an explanation for my statement and not a rant directed at you. Apparently, others in the Super Secret VK Society of Trust (NOT ALL VK FANS HERE, just a certain few whom decided namecalling was better than civilised discussion. To clarify not the VK fanbase on this forum, only certain people.) feel that my enjoyment for B'z and my questioning of the current state of the J-Pop forum is very Hitler like. That I, force my opinion upon others, not caring for their feelings and saying that I am better than everyone else, thus destroying the happy little VK rain man world they live in when someone, heaven forbid, should dare mention something non-VK related. Hell, I even got PM's from certain people whom shall remain nameless about how much of a jerk I am because of it. Whatever.

As for the hiatus, they may be for now. I know Koshi has his solo and Tak has his as well with quite a few old US metal heads.

They will more than likely release a new album this summer/fall.

You know, Tak has his own Les Paul siggy series? It's nice. Shane Galaas, the drummer from B'z has a kick *** album out too.

L'Arc is fun to listen to, they have their Baltimore live DVD coming out this month in the US.

I like Glay a lot. I have their High Communications tour DVD and they put on a very good show.

Yes, I know that. :D I haven't heard Shane's CD so I can't tell... But as I said, try anything of B'z member. :P Tak and Koshi is just the easiest to find. :P

For me the best albums of Glay are: Heavy Gauge, Unity Roots & Family, Away (quite non-glay album). Not that I heard all their albums.

Maybe try also SADS. I'd mention Janne Da Arc, but they play rather Soft Rock.
