View Full Version : J-Pop Evening in London
J-Pop Go! is a dedicated evening celebrating a broad range of popular Japanese music which is scheduled to take place at a venue in London this year.
The event will consist of DJ's playing a variety of J-Pop tunes throughout the night. It's intended to appeal to both hardcore fans as well as introducing J-Pop to new people curious about Japanese music.
At the present moment, we have a provisional date of Thursday 17th March for the event.
In the meantime, anyone interested can get more info via the website here: www.jpopgo.co.uk (http://www.jpopgo.co.uk)

Let's hope London has a larger J-Pop following then Amsterdam. :smug:
Do you have any plans for live-acts?
There's no plans for live performances as yet. If the first night is a success though, we might look into the possibility of live acts in the future.
Just to provide you all with the latest update - The planned date for J-Pop Go has been changed. We're now looking at holding the event later in the year than originally scheduled. More details to follow.
In the meantime the J-Pop Go website has been updated. There's two new sections - the Music section offers an idea of what music you'll be hearing on the night. The Downloads page features a few graphic giveaways. The FAQ has also been updated. We also have a new poll asking what things you think would improve J-Pop Go.

Uhm, what kind of audience are you targeting? Your poll shows people want anime-showings...
Shouldn't this whole event be about the music? That poll proves (once again) that there is no serious audience for these kind of events. Quite a shame actually, but the situation is the same in the Netherlands. JPop is still a very very small sub-culture.
J-Pop Go is designed to cater for a wide base of J-Pop fans and it would be tough to disregard the anime fanbase. In fact there's a history of the two going hand in hand (Megumi Hayashibara springs to mind).
We've been playing around with a few ideas to add some 'whistles and bells' to the event and some anime viewings seem to be a popular idea. It's an idea we're discussing with an anime distributor at this stage.
Meanwhile, I'm keen to pursue the idea of a dedicated J-Pop Go magazine for the event which will serve as a J-Pop primer and might lead to other things in the future. Ideas for articles welcomed :-)

nice. this sounds similar to what my friend organised for my city, adelaide, last year. it was advertised as a jpop dance party. it went alright, was a bit weird, had a couple of djs playing japanese music (although they threw in the odd non-japanese song bastards!). you'll find your biggest target audience are the japanese exchange students, especially the girls! once you've got them going, all the non-japanese guys will want to go. stuff the anime people, they don't know how to dance. :p :p
but yeah, this year it'll be on again, jutopia it's called. and i'll take this opportunity to mention that this year the band i've formed, Moshi Mosh! will be performing live. yay!
>>you'll find your biggest target audience are the japanese exchange students, especially the girls! once you've got them going, all the non-japanese guys will want to go.
Actually, that's one of our target audiences :bluush:
After some changes and updates we now have a rescheduled date of Wednesday May 4th for the event.
J-Pop Go! will feature selected DJ's including DJ Take Off (better known for Brighton's Departure Lounge events) who will be playing variety of J-Pop tunes throughout the night.
As a bonus, we are also producing a special magazine for the event. Designed as a J-Pop primer, the magazine will provide more info on the various J-Pop genres as well as quick guides to a variety of artists. Contributers include Jonathan Mays who has written for the likes of Newtype, Anime Insider and Neo.
We are also keen to hear from potential writers who may want to contribute. So if you've always wanted to write about J-Pop, now's your chance.
As ever, more information is available from our website at www.jpopgo.co.uk (http://www.jpopgo.co.uk)
Tickets for the J-Pop Go event will shortly be available to buy online direct from the J-Pop Go website at www.jpopgo.co.uk (http://www.jpopgo.co.uk)
We have a provisional price of 8 for the tickets which will get you access for the event and also a copy of the J-Pop Go magazine. We're still finalising some details and possibly additional activities for the night so the price may alter before we go live.
We've also got our first Competition page online. Answer three simple questions and win a 50 Store Voucher courtesy of Crazyninja.
We also have a new Poll looking at what you rate most highly in a J-Pop artist.

There have been a few late changes to the J-Pop Go event. We've changed the format of the magazine and also some aspects of the schedule for the night. The good news is that this means a reduced ticket price of 6.
The DJ's for the J-Pop Go event will be DJ Take Off and DJ KyuKyuSha. Both have experience in playing the best of J-Pop at club nights such as the successful Departure Lounge events.
I'm chatting to Terratag about putting an art display on before the night kicks off. If that's feasible then there's going to be some nice things to look at. :)
There's also a chance of a live band slotted in there as well all the way from Japan. But again, I need to see if we can make our schedules match up.
I was out recruiting potential J-Pop Go attendees today. I'm studying Japanese so I've been having chats with one of the colleges that trains Japanese students to teach Japanese to foreigners. So you should expect some polite and charming Japanese girls there on the night. Perhaps you'll get a chance to practice your Nihongo! ^_^
Hi all, long time ghost appearance here, sorry about the Absence. Just came across this thread & a quick check was inspired by my Anime friends telling me about way funly looking JPOP fans at the LAC on Sunday.
Had a look at the site but oh no I don't own credit cards, I'm a dinosor from the past using Yen only OK ponds too. How can I get to go if no tickets ar on the door. Someone help me on this one. Jpop we've been seperated for so long, hishashiburi desu. Help!!!
I met DJ KyuKyuSha before, his selection of music is pretty good.
He plays in a band as well but i forgot the name -_-
I would go but it's kinda far and final project deadline is this month, good luck with the event tho. :)
We did have an option for sending in ticket orders by post as well as credit card on the order form.
That said, we've made a decision to make a limited number of ticket packs available on the door on the night. But you'll need to get there early and there's no guarantees that you'll definitely get a ticket.
Another important issue - all those that sent in orders over the past few days will be able to pick up their ticket packs at the venue. Sending stuff by post at this late stage was too risky. We'll have a list at the venue to check you off. Bringing some ID will help.
I'll be sending a mail-out to all those on the J-Pop Go mailing list later tonight clarifying these issues.
Hope to see you all on the night - should be a blast! ^_^
It was a great night with some fine tunes and a brilliant crowd - Thanks to everyone that came along for the night. J-Pop Go was also enhanced by some stunning art by Terratag and a surprise appearance by Mika from Mika Bomb.
Updates over on www.jpopgo.co.uk (http://www.jpopgo.co.uk) with some photos from the event. ^_^
More photos will be added soon - enjoy! :D
Tickets for the next J-Pop Go event are now available from the J-Pop Go website. The date is Wednesday 13th July and the venue once again is Fluid in London.
To make things simpler, we've also made the J-Pop Go tickets and magazine available separately. So you can choose to simply order a ticket for the event only or opt to buy a subscription to the magazine only - alternatively, you can do both!:D
Issue 2 of the magazine is in production and more details will be flagged up soon.
As ever, full details are up on the J-Pop Go Website here: www.jpopgo.co.uk (http://www.jpopgo.co.uk)

Out of interest, roughly how many people normally come to these events, and are they all English, or have you had any success attracting the Japanese yet?
We get about 30-40 people down for these events and the nationalities vary, but we do get Japanese peeps attending too. :D

Good luck, at least people know what j-pop is over there.
The next J-Pop Go event takes place on Saturday February 11th and will have something of a Valentine's Day feel to it... As ever, expect a night of great J-Pop/J-Rock tunes care of our resident DJ's at our new home of Cafe Manga on London's South Bank.

People attending J-Pop Go will get a chance to play some of these games at the venue itself - plus we'll be running competitions both on the night and also on the website (and in the forthcoming J-Pop Go magazine). You'll have an opportunity to win some great prizes from Ubisoft including a PSP, a PS2 and copies of both Tales of Eternia and Drakengard 2. Check the Competition page on the J-Pop Go website for details.
You'll also get a chance to view two new anime titles care of ADV: Elfen Lied is a gripping, bloody adventure with more limb-breaking, muscle-tearing, blood-spurting action than you can shake a stick at. Also available is the critically-acclaimed thriller Boogiepop Phantom. You'll also be able to win copies of those titles both at the event and via the website.
Meanwhile, the J-Pop Go website has a nice new Valentine's Day splash page and there's a few subtle changes here and there. There's a new downloadable Desktop and there's also a new Poll tackling the tricky subject of what you enjoy doing most at J-Pop Go. ^_^
