The grandfather of C-Rock Cui Jian is one of my favorite artists. Some songs to try: A Piece of Red Cloth, Rock On New Long March, and Nothing to My Name.

Well, these groups are more Hong Kong or Taiwan-based, but I've always liked the music of Mayday and Black Box... although they're somewhat softer rock music, like the style of Spitz in the J-Pop world.
And I second the recommendation on Cui Jian... great stuff!

I just bought Huang Li Tsi (Stanley) 's Shades of my Mind from YesAsia. It's more rap than rock, but still quite rocky.
A Hong Kong friend of mine often recommended I try LMF (Light M***** F****r), but I can't remember if they are rock or rap.
Tbh, not much music I've heard from HK is beyond the pop genre, it's a kind of rut that the Cantonese artists have got into. You might find different, it's hard to know exactly what there is out there when you can't read cantonese.

Hmmm... if I'm remembering correctly, LMF is definitely rap-oriented music.

I've been getting more into Chinese music lately. I haven't heard much rock, because I couldn't find any in that genre (perhaps due to loss in interest and governmental controls? wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_rock)), although I think the first track on Alan Kuo's self-titled album was a very beautiful rock number. Typically, I find Chinese vocals very top-notch and obviously showing serious training. I've heard some very strong and tight compositions. Also, their use of English lyrics and pronunciation is often not as careless as in some other cases I've seen... I really don't see what's "weird" about Chinese music at all.
Currently, I'm loving Tanya Chua's Amphibian album, which is alternative mellow (adult?) pop.
I'm also getting into K-Rock. Seo Taiji, despite being seen as the best of K-Rock, doesn't really fascinate me- I'm not big on (pop)-punk-rock sounds or vocals reminiscent of (pop)-punk-rock. But Nell, on the other hand, is pretty good.
i like F.I.R and mayday =)
and Jay Chou =)
check out Renyuu, he is quite good, i only have one song tho, but one song enough for me to like someone lol
i used to listen to chinese music like 10 years ago...hahaha...then i stopped and went to thai music...chinese music, in my opioin, is picking up. i'm starting to keep track of their musics. but i have never listen to any c-rock. only to chinese pop and hip-hop.
I listened to some of the Jay Chou songs, I like them! It's not the kind of music I normally listen to, but it's good... it's nice to have a change and listen to something different now and again, so he'll definitely stay on my playlists.
yeah, jay chou !!
do u guys listen to chinese .. boybands? like F4, energy, 5566 etc etc

I never knew 5566 was a boyband, but I've listened one of their albums. It was pretty good. I liked the smooth jazziness of some of the tracks.
I've listened to Jay Chou but he never really stuck with me. I think he's good, just not my style of music. Still, there are some songs of his that I've liked.
