Where do you listen to J-pop music? Are there any TV programs featuring Japanese musicians?

In Japan, many people love Western rock music or pops,so magazines written about American or British bands are very popular.

there are people like me who likes j music in northamerica....but i think most of the population doesnt get exposed to it since it is not on TV(only on anime shows, which is very limited also) or radio, and you can hardly find the albums in stores. which i think sucks because j music is very good. but this summer i went back to china and j pop is going pretty good there ^_^ j rock however, most chinese people still have yet to discover.

i mainly find j music on the interent, since its the only place that has it...

I have to tune into J-Pop/Rock/Music internet radio streams to get a taste of the stuff here in the UK, which is what I do whilst I study and learn Japanese. No Japanese acts get success here. The only time I've heard a J-Pop song on telly was the FFX-2 ads that had that song on it.

J-Pop music is starting to become somewhat popular, though I'd say most Americans' main exposure to J-Pop is through anime theme music... this past year, we had Hikaru Utada release a CD on a major record label (though it didn't sell particularly well) and the Tofu Records label was launched which has been releasing a few Sony artist albums in their original Japanese forms (though with English liner notes)... but again, the primary Tofu Records releases had some connection to anime:

TM Revolution -- "coordinate" and "Seventh Heaven" [Gundam Seed]
L'arc~en~ciel -- "SMILE" [Fullmetal Alchemist]

There aren't any TV programs which feature J-Pop artists as a music program... the closest we have right now might be "Hi Hi PuffyAmiYumi!", which is a cartoon program featuring the group Puffy and their music that airs on a station available to most of North America via cable (Cartoon Network). I've even heard some of their earliest work, like "Asia no junshin", featured in this show.

In rarer cases, people might have access to a cable network called the International Channel... this station does broadcast some of the Japanese TV programs, some with English subtitles, and this includes at least one music program (Pop Japan TV).

So there are some beginnings, but nothing major to date... there are some Internet radio streams and a few small college radio shows playing J-Pop right now, so there are some sources for international audiences who know where to find it...

Welcome to the Forum, by the way!

Or you can try Boudisque (http://www.boudisque.nl/) , I've heard they usually have some Japanese music in stock.

If you already know what you want to buy you should have a look at CD japan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/)

This weekend on MTV ( )I caughtpart of a benfit concert, i think they were saing it was an awards show but out of respect it became a benifit concert for victims of the tsunami. Anyway, they had several asian groups singing, the only one I saw and knew was namie amuro.
