Today Yoshinoya, a gyudon (beef over rice) chain store had a special one day event: actual gyudon! They've been serving pork instead of beef since Japan's ban on US beef last year. For Fridays special event, however, they imported hundreds of tons of "clean" meat. I went to go have a bowl at around 6:00pm. Fortunate for me, they still had some. I still had to wait in a long line to get mine, and they ran out about ten minutes after I arrived! Then, after I got home tonight, I ran across a funny image on TV; people eating gyudon in half-smashed store!

Read all about it HERE. (http://mdn.mainichi.co.jp/news/20050211p2a00m0dm010000c.html)

Car crashing into the store or not, people still want their gyudon!

tonight, I ran across a funny image on TV; people eating gyudon in half-smashed store!I thought you were talking about a riot! I WANT MA' BEEF, DAMMIT!!!Bonehead beef eater bull-dozes into carnivorous carnival

SAKAI, Osaka -- A carpenter rammed his car into a Yoshinoya fast food restaurant here Friday, the very day the chain revived its popular beef-on-rice dishes following Japan's ban on U.S. beef imports, injuring seven people......At around 10:50 a.m., the 63-year-old man was backing his van in the car park of the Hanwa-Hamadera No. 2 outlet of the Yoshinoya chain and mistakenly rammed the vehicle into the building......six customers and an employee were injured......mistakenly stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake as he was trying to park his van......The company was forced to stop serving the dish after the government banned imports of U.S. beef in December 2003 following an outbreak of mad cow disease. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Feb. 11, 2005)I think you're missing the point here, Mad Pierrot.
The gentleman was obviously in a great hurry, and determined to get his beef no matter what. The craving can get to people, so every carnivore better watch out!

Just this instant, tell yourself like 10 times in a row;

"I am not what I eat.
I am greater than the food I crave for.
It's not worth risking my life over a meal.
I am greater than that bonehead and ******!
I shall NOT succumb to the sweet, juicey smell of a bowl of gyudon with beef cooked just right...slurp... with just the right amount of seasoning sprinkled on top.....slurp!!

I guess it doesn't work. Take a cold shower...think about something else than biting into that soft texture....slurp!!

It's not working.....help!!! :giggle:

I've always wondered why people line up at Yoshinoya when you can cook it so easily yourself. Maybe it's because less and less Japanese know how to cook these days!

Here's the recipe:
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Milano/1095/yosinoya.htm

To slice meat thin when sliced beef is not available in your country:
http://www.ncwind.net/faq/meat.html

They're all in Japanese... :relief:
But, if your craving is strong enough, get your Japanese language skills and dictionaries to work!! :emblaugh:

Sadly, it was only that one day event.
