japanese - japanese dictionary

Can you suggest a good japanese - japanese dictionary? I mean a dictionary in a book form, not on CD. Or maybe an electronic dictionary is better?

I can't speak from personal experience, but there's a guy I know who has the 新明解国語辞典 (http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4385131066/qid=1108956880/sr=1-2/ref=sr_1_10_2/250-1004264-8235420) and it seems to work well for him.

I'd recommend a 電子辞書 anytime! The reason is not that the electronic version has better content. It's mainly because it's much more portable that you can bring it around anywhere you like. At any point of time, if you need to search for a word, it's there for you to use. That way, you can learn much faster. Also, with advance feature like super search, you can find a word far more easier than a paper dictionary. I'm using a Sharp PW-9700 and I bring it along wherever I go.

This dictionary is recommended for foreigners learning Japanese because of the extensive definitions and examples. It is much more descriptive on the correct usage of words than other dictionaries. I have it myself and I like it.

I dont spose anyone in england knows where to get hold of one of these.

Cant find them anywhere, i know a few of my friends had them but Uni finished and i have no means of contact.

Would be nice to have before i go to Japan this summer.

You can order them form amazon.co.jp. That's where I got mine (the same one orochi has).
