Hello! hey have you guys have heard about the expo 2005 aichi?? It seems really interesting, I've heard it starts on march 25, are you going to check it out?? and is it very famous in japan?? or just another event?? =S just wondering...The World's Fair/World Exposition is an event with a very long history (see here (http://expomuseum.com/history/)) which is held semi-regularly and has been hosted by a number of cities/countries over the course of its existence (the first one was in London in 1851). Aichi Prefecture is the host of this year's version of the event. (Apparently, the next expo will be in Zaragoza, Spain in 2008, and following that in Shanghai in 2010.)

I've had a lot of exposure to pre-Expo hype while in Japan visiting my fiancee, who lives outside the Nagoya area. Unfortunately, I won't be there to actually attend any of the events.

Have you been looking at a lot of information on the expo? Do you recognize my avatar, by any chance? :)

Hmm well...
I didn't much mention it too my sudents, but a co-worker of mine was really excited by the idea. He tried to use the Expo as a discussion point for his lessons at NOVA. He found some students had no idea it was happening (mainly salarymen, big surprise there) or didn't care at all.

He only got one decent conversation out of it.

These are Kanagawa people.

HAHAHA yes JT.... they're the mascots of the expo =P I've seen some pics on the internet, and it looks really interesting, I read that they're going to expose a mamut's fossil or something like that ! =O sounds nice

While attending the Japan Expo in Los Angeles in November, there was an Expo 2005 booth there with information. It looks to be an interesting show. If you want more info on Expo 2005, go to Expo 2005 (http://www.expo2005.or.jp).

I thought that you were working for Expo 2005 because of the avatar!!

I'm not particularly interested in the event, but my mother wants to go. So, I may take her there between March and September and to an onsen, too! :-)

I really want to go. I'm fascinated by the history of World's Fairs and Expos (I went to a World's Fair when I was very small). I hope I get over to Japan before it closes.

The house designed by Miyazaki Hayao is a big attraction, too.

I just saw on the news that the Pagoda in the Royal garden in Brussels will be in the exposition :)

Wow there sure seems to be a lot of things, I also read that there will be some new Busses that use Hydrogen cells instead of gasoline, quite attractive I must say =P.....
Is it true that there'll be an internal train wich moves the visitors from one place to another?? that sounds was too unbelievable to be true =O

I thought perhaps they were paying people like jt to get the word out from their custom titles.... :relief:

With epigene, I'm also not all that interested personally, although I was somewhat surprised to see these large-scale fairs and expos still continuing....haven't there been a serious of money losing host venues recently ? :?

Elizabeth,

You are VERY, VERY correct! Expo 2005 Aichi itself had been hotly debated in the past five or more years over its feasibility and contradiction with its environmental theme (the organizers originally planned to clear a natural forest for it!!). A lot of compromises (forced on the organizers by civic action and environmental groups) have been made, and it is not what it originally aspired to be. Many plans have been squashed due to impracticality.

I only have a general idea of what the Expo will be like, but Toyota Motor (remember it takes place in Nagoya area) did a lot to make this a success. It will probably be a better event than the previous one held in Germany (I think it was Hamburg??). At least, I have heard in the news reporting strong advance ticket sales.

My mother, who knows nothing about the background, is forcing me to go! :relief:
