Hi everyone, I've been really busy in school lately so I haven't written here for a while. :relief: But the hard work has really paid off, I've been selected to go and study Japanese for a year at Tokyo Gakugei daigaku, starting in October this year. I've also been recommended for a scholarship to fund it. I would really like to thank a lot of the people on this forum for the past year, this is where I started of when I first got interested in Japanese and I've been drawing motivation by reading from threads here ever since.

Now, to my question, has anyone here had any experience of Gakugei or has any thoughts about the school? :? I've visited their website but I'm grateful for any info.

You must have worked hard to get such an honor! I hope you can get there before October to have some enjoyment time for yourself before studies. Congrats!!

David, wow! Congratulations!

My knowledge of the university comes primarily from my daughter. One of her closest friends studied at the university. You have to be in the top echelon of high school seniors in Japan to have a chance for admission in that university!

Tokyo Gakugei Daigaku was primarily a teacher college. Today, it is best known for training teachers for kindergarten through junior high school. As a public university, other academic departments are also excellent! I think it's relatively small compared to other national/public universities but has top-notch teachers! Enjoy your stay in Japan and make the most of your experience there!! :yeahh:

A place is the suburbs of Tokyo
It is approximately 20 minutes from Shinjuku to Kokubunji Station.

Are you living near the school? It's very close to Shibuya... a pretty good location indeed... far closer than the average joe lives I'd say. You could probably get a 2500 yen cab ride back if you got drunk and missed the last train.

GaijinPunch-san,

Nagashima-san's post showed that Tokyo Gakugei Daigaku has moved to Koganei. Gakugeidai-mae Station on Toyoko Line only has a high school affiliated to that university. So many universities have moved out into the outskirts! :bluush:

Doh! Didn't know that. I only had one friend in University (Today) and he failed a couple of times. :)
