hey guys,
right now i'm in osaka, I love it! but my roomate landed a great job that might end up getting me some work too, so we're moving to nara (also, the half-priced apartment is a big improvement) - and while I know nara is nothing like osaka, is there anything that can cheer me up about the move? It's like 800yen from nara to osaka so I can't go there anytime I want, but does nara have things that could keep me interested?

Nara was one of my favorite tourist stops in Japan, but that might get a little old if you're living there. It's like Kyoto, but the cool thing is that all the temples have deer walking around on the grounds and screaming school children feeding them.

btw... Shouldn't the name of this thread be "Moving from Osaka to Nara"?

haha, you are right, I don't know how I didn't catch that :p that's what I'm afraid of though. Everyone mentions the deer, or the big buddah, but that stuff can only be so interesting for so long. Within a month I'm gonna miss hep5 or shinsaibashi or yodobashi camera or the 300 stores that randomly appear down some isle, or the tokoyaki shops every 2 feet. Maybe I'll learn to like nara more, anyone have any must-see suggestions?

Not that Nara is all that small, but I actually enjoyed living in a small Japanese town (Numazu and Fuji City) more than living in the big city (Minami Shinagawa, Tokyo) but maybe that's cause my coworkers banded together more in the smaller towns and I don't like to shop, so that wasn't really a benefit of the big city.
