Asagi has a fantastic voice. It doesn't have the same versatility as Kyo's or Tatsurou's, but it's pure quality. I wonder if it's a trained voice? :? Sounds like it might be... If not, he's very lucky as he must be a natural.... ^^

kinsao... im pretty sure... or at least... i highly think.. that asagi has been trained before... caz his voice is very.. i dunno how to explain it... but its really nice... caz... if u notice.. he can hold a note... probably longer and higher than anyone i noe...

Yeah... I know what you mean. You can hear the way his voice resonates in the back of his throat and head - it sounds like he lifts the palette properly, which (apparently) very few people do fully without training.

Haha - I've so far refrained from posting that leather shorts picture of Ruiza in here... y'know... the one I post everywhere. :blush: That was the first pic I saw of anyone from D, and of course I had to listen, feeling it somehow wrong to have a favorite pic of a band I hadn't even heard! :bluush:

So I'm damn glad Ruiza looked so fine, otherwise I might not even have listened! :p

Yeah, I agree Daemonette. I listened to D without ever seeing them or knowing what they looked like. I decided to go to their site one day, and it was a nice surprise to see what they looked like. I really visualized them as crazy metal heads with long hair and no makeup haha. Ruiza was definitely an extra bonus haha.

It's a shame actually... they sound quite promising until the vocals. I'm sorry, but I really cannot stand that guy's voice! :auch:

The bass playing is quite good, but I can't listen to it just for that - I just don't like 'em. :sorry:

Me too - I'm bad at putting names to faces.

I use other things to help me...I've always known shinyas name cause when I heard it the first time I thought of skinnjakka(letherjakket in norwegian) and skinnja is pronounced the same way as shinya, it's weird but it's things like that that makes me learn names and weird words:bluush:

Well, I only know that they're active, recently released an album, and got Tsunehito (ex-Scissor) as a new bass player recently too. As far as forthcoming releases go, I haven't a clue...

Yes, there are many films based on the novel. I know the PV for that song was like the Phantom of the Opera, but sometimes the videos aren't direct interpretations of the song. Since most of the song is in Japanese I would have no way of knowing.

I found a translation for "yami yori kurai doukoku no a capella to bara yori akai jounetsu no aria" and the title means "a cappella of a lamentation darker than darkness, and aria of a passion redder than the rose" and apparently the song is based on The Phantom of the Opera!
(I'm sure nobody other than sunsweet will care to know this lol.)
Sweet! That's pretty much one of the coolest songs ever, haha. Is Asagi the main lyric writer for D *is too lazy to walk the 2 feet it would take to get to my cd case and look at it for myself to see if Asagi is the one who wrote the lyrics*. I love songs with good lyrics, not that I could understand them anyway, but it makes me appreciate the song a little bit more after reading the lyrics. Plus, now the chorus makes a little bit more sense, lol (I always wondered why he was saying "why was I born such ugly?"). It's funny because my mom and I just went to see the Phantom of the Opera stage-play the week before I spent the weekend @ your house in Michigan. Good stuff!

You're welcome. In the front, from left to right, HIDE-ZOU, ASAGI, Ruiza. In the back, from left to right, Rena, HIROKI. HIDE-ZOU and Ruiza are the guitarists, ASAGI is the vocalist, and HIROKI is the drummer. Rena was their old bassist, who is now replaced by Tsunehito.

What a great discovery! I was looking up all these random photos of not so well known Jrock bands, and I came across Givuss which was Shou and Tora from Alice Nine's old band. I saw this guy Tsunehito and was like mmm he is good looking. Erica was like wait is that the Tsunehito that is in D now? so I looked it up, and it is! He was also in scissor (which I knew but I had no idea about Givuss) He looks a lot different now. Here is a pic from when he was in Givuss.

I adore Asagi's voice. It's quite simply fantastic.
I would put him as my number one j-rock singer for voice quality, but there is just one thing - his voice just that little bit lacks the emotional range of someone like (for example) Tatsurou. Not for want of trying, but just something in its nature (I suffer from the same thing myself; my voice doesn't have any natural vibrato so I have to work like crazy to get any 'expression' in it at all :( ). Someone like Kyo is the prime example of expressiveness and variety - but he doesn't have the control. Myself, I consider Tatsurou as my 'number one' j-rock singer, as he has a great expressive range and the actual quality of his singing has come on in leaps and bounds recently until it well rivals Asagi's.

But Asagi will always have a special place in my heart :hihi: No one else can sing like him... :love:

I agree with you Kinsao. I adore Asagi's voice too, and I'd put him as number one for voice quality. You can tell he's been trained, a true professional if you will, his voice is great. I understand what you mean about Tatsurou's voice and I agree with that too. I wouldn't be able to choose between Tatsurou's voice and Mao's (although I like a lot more MUCC songs than Sid songs) but they both have that natural emotional intensity thing going on, haha, it's hard to explain. Of course Hizumi is my favorite overall, but that's just because I love all of D'espairsRay's songs and he has the perfect sing-to-scream ratio and delivery in my opinion, haha. My favorite natural vocalist of all Jrockers (actually my favorite male vocalist period) is Hyde, but that's just because of my absolute weakness for Laruku and especially the song Anemone and what his voice does to me when I hear that song *wipes away sweat* phew.... Anyways, there's another D thread that is longer than this one and has hot pictures that someone *is too lazy* should dig up since it's longer and better (though ill-named)

Well, there is some emotion (and you can hear he's really trying! ^^) but not like Tatsurou, Kyo or Mao.

I prefer Tatsurou's voice over Mao's because he has that ability to growl and scream as well as sing clear. Kinda like Hizumi does (can't believe I forgot to mention him in my earlier post! :sorry: he really does have a great variable voice ^^). And Kyo... well, his voice also has a special place in my heart because it is entirely unique, but quality-wise, although there are times when it's really great, usually it's not so good in fact - I mean, you can really tell it's completely untrained. >< I don't mean a singer has to be trained to be good, but you can so much hear that Kyo could make miles better use of his voice if he was. :relief: (but I still love him anyway...)

Asagi has a really nice voice, but Hizumi is my favorite vocalist. He has a beautiful singing voice, yet can scream like no other, and all in the same song. I like Tatsurou's voice a lot, but after hearing a Dir en grey cover my feelings about his voice totally changed. He was out of tune and his voice kept cracking, it was dreadful! I love how he can go from singing to screaming as well, but not nearly as smoothly as Hizumi does.

I dunno - nudity is a tad over-rated. Clothes are good... they have interesting textures, and they are good to gnaw on... :D The contrasting textures of skin and clothes are good... :-) especially on j-rockers! :cool:

I have just listened to the three new D songs with Tsunehito on bass, and I really love them! :love: :dance: :happy: :yeahh: :cool:
Is it just me, or does it sound like D acquire a slightly more experimental sound? :? I can't say exactly how, but maybe a bit more spiky on drums, and some more variation? That's how it seems to me. And Asagi's voice more varied too. It's not big like a huge major change but quite subtle difference, and I like it! :cool: If they carry on this way, D could end up being a close second place in my heart (alongside joint firsts Kozi and MUCC, hehehe!). :)
there's some really nice guitar work in Mayutsuki no Hitsugi. :love:

D does have really good guitar riffs and the drumming is AWESEOME too. I was listening to 'kyoujin butoufu' this morning, thinking about how great of musicians the band has. The guitar riffs sometimes remind me of old X-Japan stuff.

Tsunehito's arm is well skinny :worried: but oddly attractive :D ... and Hiroki has devastating drummer arms. X_x (well, the one that I can see! XD). Tsunehito has kind of... weird but unique looks... ^^ and Hide-zou looks really 'old school VK' on that picture! :D Asagi is lovely as ever...

I wish they'd hurry up and release a new album or single (instead of re-release! -_-). I really like the direction they seem to be going in. There's still Ruiza's solo album to look forward to, though... although I have to say, I tend to like people's solo projects less than their band works (e.g. Kisaki, Hakuei, Kirito... >.<)

...Do I even need to comment on how beautiful Asagi is, my God he's sexy.
Hide-zou and Ruiza look lovely as well. Tsunehito is funny looking, haha, but his skinny yet muscular arm is hot. Hiroki's arms have always been beautiful and of course these pics are no exception.

But, Asagi is just ... gorgeous.

ETA: I took a look at the Oricon Indies charts, and D's new re-releases are doing quite well, so that's good for them. They were in the top 20 last time I checked (spots 13 and 14), last week sometime and were one of the few band names I recognized.

I like the remakes, but I need some new music from D! I can't wait until they finally release something, and I'm definitely picking up Ruiza's solo work...

On the topic of D, I find it absolutely hilarious that my mom loves 'yami yori, etc.' We spent the weekend in Michigan helping out my grandmother (she broke her arm in three places:( ) , but anyways, on the way up I was playing my Jrock cds (like usual) and I put in The name of the ROSE. She ADORES Asagi's voice and kept asking me to play the song over and over again ... if you all new my mom you would realize how ridiculously unusual this is ... but it's awesome too. She thinks that he looks cute, though she did say "for a girl", but hey, it's close enough ... I think I'm finally breaking her, lol!

Yeah, it was really serious ... she had to have a metal rod put in in an emergency surgery b/c the bone was so irreparable. It sucks seeing her all doped up and helpless at the moment, though she'll make a full recovery ... she's one of those old people who work out everyday and goes running and such, so she's really healthy, she'll be fine. I just hate seeing her in so much pain, it's awful.

...but yeah, My mom is really into musicals and such, just like me, so I think that may be why she likes Asagi's voice. His voice IS so smooth ... melodically magnificent ... ~melts with Kinsao~

Asagi is releasing a solo cd ... and cologne, according to JaME

Don't worry, he's not leaving the band. Asagi is following in Ruiza's footsteps and releasing a solo CD entitled Corvinus on September 20th. The release is a CD+DVD set for 1890 yen and limited to 5000 copies. Asagi has also "produced" his own fragrance, also called Corvinus, that will be made avaliable on the same day as his CD but for 4500 yen.

Yes, but bands typically have "concepts" in which the members try to sound a certain way together. Asagi may want to try some ideas of his own out, that he thinks may or may not fit into the theme of what "D" is as a band. Solo projects allow for a person to express themselves in a different way than they do as a band.

I don't know what D stands for, or even whether it's meant to stand for anything. I always thought it was just a letter - but there must be some reason why they chose it! :?

Anyway, they have a magazine called Mad Tea Party (I don't really know what it is, whether it's a fan magazine or something) and lately they had a feature shoot on 'guitarists', including Lida from Dacco, Iori and Jun from Phantasmagoria (??), Kozi and someone else who I forget. :sorry: Anyway, they also of course had a feature on Ruiza, as well as some pics of all the members.

It might not sound that way at first because they have a very definite and cohesive sound of their own, which is tight and quite mature-sounding. But I can't help feeling that they've got more potential, and I don't think they've stopped developing. They have a knack for that kind of soaring metal, replete with guitars and hanging off Asagi's voice. But I think they can do better than that, and I think - I might be wrong but it's an inkling - that they are showing some signs of moving away from that.

I love their brand of traditional rock-metal, and wouldn't want them to change that in such a way that they lost their characteristics. But I can't help feeling that they can somehow expand, and I get the impression that they are feeling that, too, but not as yet quite sure how to do it. This latest song is big ... I mean, it is long, and it uses a big sound; it seems like it is really straining against some invisible barrier that it hasn't quite broken through (because when you listen to it, it is after all only a rather long and reasonably ordinary rock song with good technique).

Kyahh ... maybe I'm just imagining things here. I'm going off on a total D-flight here! :bluush: But ... does anyone else agree with me? :worried:

I didn't notice your observation before...

I feel the same way about the song. I think that this song has a lot of strong elements, and it does feel kind of big, but not quite as big as it has the potential of sounding (lol, did that make any sense?)

I think they should've worked with the vocal melodies differently. The melodies he uses are almost too simple when paired with all of the music going on around his voice. I feel like you do, like there's some barrier that he's trying to cross ... but it's just not reached. I feel that way with both of the songs on the single. Something like that.

Not to say they aren't good, though. It's nice to hear some new D stuff, and I'm happy that they made it to number 1 (maybe Asagi can quit his part-time job now >.<)

Has anyone else heard Corvinus, Asagi's new solo single, yet?
I've listened to it and it's quite good. I'll have to listen to it more times to have a proper opinion on it, but it certainly isn't bad or anything. It sounds to me... typically like what I would have expected, which is kinda good (not too unlike D's music, which I like), but on the other hand it would be nice to hear something more... how shall I say?... experimental (I wondered why he had to work away from D to make that).
