Konnichiwa dutch baka-san!

Japanese sing Happy Birthday Song in English. :relief:
Because there is not Happy Birthday Song in Japan. :p
Why isn't there Happy Birthday Song? Japanese had not a custom to celebrate one's Birthday. :sorry:

This is a difference of custom and culture.

Yes indeed, as birthdaypresents are getting more popular over the years (western influence) and singing mostly is english ;-) If u want to surprise someone, give them a Birthdaycard !!!

from experience with my g/f i get the impression most western holidays are simply a vehicle for the younger generations to convey feelings, as if every adopted western holiday is just a valentines day by another word, but then , i could be wrong.

Just a few days ago we celebrated my sensei's birthday :-) ! (Japanese teacher)
we sang happy birthday in English , ate cake and did the same old stuff. Perhaps because the class is a bunch of gaikokujins , but our second sensei was participating , usually our sensei's guide us into the diversity of the Japanese culture , but everything went on so "traditionally" :D

If you really wanna sing it the Japanese way ,put some Japanese accent into the English . But if your fiancee is not familiar with the Japanese cultural aspects then you are loosing the point here .

LOL. well that surprises me, I thought they sang it in japanese, I know I could of sworn that over here, there was a japanese program, where they teach you japanese and they should this program where it was a boy's birthday and everybody was singing it in japanese, I could be wrong, because I know that the word they were using was "congradulations" I can't spell it in japanese, but it was something like that.

*scratches her head*
