Simply , Where can I get my hair braided ??

I have been looking at all the local hairdressers in my town Kokubunji but couldn't find one place that offers hair braiding. Let me offer this story.

I was truely facinating about how good the Japanese people's hair looked and "fastionate". I thought if their hair is good , then their hair dressers must be ! So I took my self to one of those big flashy saloons.

I personally was dissapointed with the way the hairdresser seemed hopless infront of my curly tough gaijin of a hair. I ended up with the typical short haircut . If you know me , you'd realize that short (boyish short) hair is the only shape I've been in for a long long time .. :okashii:

End of the "just ranting" story . Now I am looking for a place where I could braid my disaster of a hair. Not only that , but a place that is able to accept a non silky non smooth non Japanese kinda hair and be able to treat it properly. Finally , somewhere that doesn't cost me a fortune.
I have no idea of braids as I've never done them before , I will appreciate information about them too!! :bluush:

I would go as far from Tachikawa to Shinjuku , any suggestions any one ??

I don't know much about braids except I used to enjoy pulling them when I was younger. Those fine, shiny, rope-looking things were just so tempting, as if beckoning me to grab and pull ! I was naughty, yes !
Let's see, what can I tell you ? What you need is a strightening job of the natural curl you have. Get some basic info at Japanese hair straightening (http://www.dlhair.com/japanesehairstraightening/).

Here's an English page of Manic Panic Hair Salon (http://www.manicpanic.com/japanese_salon.html) in Yokohama, but they charge you $85 just for the straightening; you could still get some info I guess! Good luck, Suki Yaki!

Edit: I was meaning to tell you that there is a way of enjoying both worlds; get a wig or two with braids!
See a Pippi Langstomp impersonation; isn't she a doll ? http://home.no.net/ragnarli/bilder/pippi.jpg
The added benefits of getting a wig are numerous, which include zero-pain when any prankster pulls at it.

Actually, that price is about the same as any straitening/perm/coloring in a salon in America, so in spite of how high it is the price isn't "bad."

And people wonder why if there's no special occasion I use supermarket hair dye...

It's good to know manic panic has places in Japan. I love thier hair dyes because they are all natural, not tested on animals and last a very long time.

hmmm ... I would have gone for straightening my hair first , but cause it's still kinda short , I was warned by a friend it could be dangerious ..
I also assume the result wouldn't be as satisfying as it would be if it was healthy. It's kinda really damaged .
But I know quite a few places where you could get hair straightening (super straight) for as cheap as $50 with a student discount !!

I understand your point Lexico , but I have really been suffering with my uncontrolable hair for years now. It's not that I don't want curls , I just can't manage them ! So i fugured braids will get me rid of the problem
Every morning I wish for some peace of mind :(

And manic panic sounds good enough, but is kinda far . Isn't there any place that is any closer to my area ??

umm can you get your friends to do it, im sure someone knows how to braid hair, even i know how. then the other part of that whole thing is parting it but if you can tie it back and do it in sections it shouldnt be that bad, although time consuming. last time i had mine done, it took about 4 hours.
