Corrections, advice?

Hi all,

I've been reviewing a few words from my tangohyou, but I'm still not sure if I'm using them properly, or if my grammar is correct. If anyone could take a quick look at these sentences and maybe post some comments/advice, that would be great! Thanks!!

日本歴史勉強していた時、それについてちしきが多かっ たけど最近そのことをよく覚えなくなちゃった。
When I was studying Japanese history,I was very knowledgeable about it, but lately I can't remember those things very well.

２年前から日本に住んでいますが、まだ日本語がよく分 からない。
I've been living in Japan for two years but I still don't understand Japanese very well.

そのうち福島県に引っ越すから、引っ越しの準備が必要 ですね。
Before long I will be moving to Fukushima prefecture so moving preparations are necessary.

''Sensei, I'm sorry but if you have time, I have a small favor to ask you. Would you please do me the favor of writing me a letter of recommendation?"

花火大会に行くときに、人が少なければ、少ないほどい いですね。
The fewer the people the better when you go to the fireworks show.

僕は仲良くするとき、いい性格のひとをゆうせんしてあ げる。
When I make friends, I give preference to someoene with a good personality.

その駅員は早く間違いをみとめた。
The station worker quickly admitted to his mistake.

彼はしずかにすみに座っているのに、恥ずかしいわけで はないよ。
Although he is quietly sitting in corner, that doesn't mean he's shy.

世界で一番はやってるしゅうきょうは何ですか？

My friend tells me all the time that you normally don't want to use よく with negative terms instead あまり is better to use.

I didn't have a chance to look over the bottom part, but it doesn't really matter....everyone I know uses "ga yoku wakaranai" as opposed to "amari." "I can speak English well" would be Jouzu ni eigo ga hanasemasu.

英語を上手に話します。

If you say 英語をよく話します, native speakers of Japanese would think that you "often" speak English or you "often" have chances to speak English. Well = 上手に(じょうずに) here.


よくの後は、Positive、あまりの後はNegativeがくる

This is a basic rule. And as you know all rules have exceptions (at least almost all). ex. the verb わかる can take both よくわからない and あまりわからない.

I assumed since she said to not use yoku in negative useage that was standard guideline.

I ran into my ex-girlfriend at the supermarket, and it stirred up some fond memories.

日本へ来てから、私の体重がよく減ったよ。
My weight has really dropped off since I came to Japan.

I was talking with her and, before I knew it, 3 hours had passed.

日本に住んでいても、日本語話せないで済むよ。
Even if you live in Japan, you can get by without being able to speak Japanese.

私は先生に推薦状を書いていただきましたって聞いたけ ど, 先生は推薦状を送るのを忘れて締め切りがたった。

Hi, jljzen, please note that 「お前」is not a polite form and can be used only among friends or family. I need to know who is talking to whom, but basically it will be something like this.
「パソコンを使いたかったら、まずお母さんの許可をも らわなればなりません。」

もうすぐ新しい仕事を働き始めるでしょう？その仕事終 わったら、どうするの？
そうですか。その後、アメリカへ帰国するつもりです。
Soon you'll start working at your new job, right?　What are you gonna do after that?
Well...after that, I plan to return to America.
「もうすぐ、新しい仕事がはじまるんでしょう？その仕 事が終わったら、どうするの？」
「そうですねえ。アメリカに帰るつもりです。」

「ごぶさたしてごめんなさい」is correct.
You can also say:
「ごぶさたして、もうしわけありませんでした。」(oft en used in written correspondence)
"I have been busy recently" would be:
「最近忙しかったものですから」

"ex-girlfriend" can be 「昔の彼女」
「偶然スーパーで昔の彼女にであい、なつかしい思い出がよみがえった 」

「日本にきてから、かなり体重が減ったよ。」
Please note the difference between 「よく」　and 「かなり」。

彼女としゃべたらいつのまにか３時間がたった。

For "3 hours had passed" 「3時間がたっていた」or 「3時間がすぎていた」sounds better.
「彼女としゃべっているうちに、いつのまにか3時間が� ｷぎていた」

日本に住んでいても、日本語話せないで済むよ。
Even if you live in Japan, you can get by without being able to speak Japanese.

「日本語話せないで済むよ」should be 「日本語を話さずにすます事が出来るよ。」
