I wasn't sure if posting this on this forum or outside it, but, it is traditional, so I guess it goes here... ? :relief:

I was wondering about the different types of festivities Japan had. If anyone had any sort of links (in english if possible, please?) on Festivals by regios and which are recent and which are traditional/old.

I was also looking for -as detailed as possible- information on the general things found on those Festivals. Mostly the games names and basic rules, and the foods. (Like that little game where you have to catch a fish with a paper net... I don't know the name :p )

So it'd be really great if anyone could tell me or point me to good sites for that. I don't think festivals have changed all that much since old in Japan, but if they have, I'm rather looking for the old ways to celebrate them rather than the new one.

Thank you, and sorry if that sounded kind of confusing. :relief:

Mentionable is the Bon Odori festival!!

I went this month and it was fabulous. But then, I am always happy to have an excuse to dress in Yukata and mingle with the Japanese! The music was great, too. (If you like traditional.) I hear it originated because someone in town wanted the population to socialize and have fun, despite class differences.

You should definitely look into this festival. It is held in Gujo and for several nights there is till dawn dancing accompanied by live traditional music! Most people are dressed in Yukata. And the dances are easy and fun, and there are a lot of Japanese willing to help teach you! (Just avoid the drunk men. :hihi:)
