I remembered reading an article on the Internet many months ago on a Japanese ship that was accidently sunk near Japan by an US submarine in WWII (1945 I think).

In reality, the ship was actually carring Japanese refugees, many of which drowned. There is also a children's book (picture book?) based on this incident.

The US submarine that torpedoed the refugee ship is now (on display?) in Hawaii (I think).

I can't remember the names of the US submarine & Japanese ship. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, Budd. It was by the merest of coincidences that I happened to know the answer. I was in my local bookstore to pick up a new road map of Chiba Prefecture and wandered over by the shelf of new nonfiction releases and happened to notice the book.

It's loaded with furigana if anyone is looking for something interesting to read and likes furigana.
