Hello!
(my first thread, I hope it's not a failure :relief:)
Now, I don't know if lots of people have seen these shirts whether online or on someone and I just wanted to know what you lot thought of them. I mean, people have mentioned how there seems to be a sort of exploitation (eh I think that word is the wrong one...) of Western guys wanting Japanese girls or whatnot. I'd like to know two things;
How the Japanese respond to this
and
Do you think it's fun/funny?
Personally, because I'm so in love with Jrockers, my friend teased me and said I should get a "Looking for a Japanese Boyfriend" shirt and I laughed then thought about it then made this thread haha.
So what do you guys think?

i would definately wear one of those tshirts, i dont see anything wrong with them, they are cute and funny for those who know what they say. But i can understand what you mean, im sure there is a japanese group that doesnt like americans, and vice versa. But who cares, if you like the tshirt go ahead and get it! wear it proudly, and snag yourself a japanese boyfriend! :p

I was thinking about getting one of these last year, but changed my mind.
I'm not sure what people think of them.
My penpal (who I met on 'Japan Guide' last year) was quite offended that I was 'looking for a Japanese girlfriend' - she thought I meant anyone would do,which is not the case.
(even though she likes English men)
Maybe I should have got one of these T-shirts instead of wasting my money on JFriends membership!
In two months I've met various time-wasters and several desparate Russians (who I put off by saying I have no money!) and one or two others who seemed frighteningly keen.
My experience of meeting people on the net is the same as the real world. The ones you fancy don't fancy you, and you don't fancy the ones who fancy you - if that makes sense.
So, I'm giving up for the time being, I'll just keep chatting with my pen pal (we still write to each other several times a week) but just purely as friends. Oh well!
For now I will sail this ship alone............................................. ............Rich303
okay, found it
previously on japanese reference forums... (http://www.jref.com/forum/showthread.php?t=9732&highlight=gatorade)
"My penpal (who I met on 'Japan Guide' last year) was quite offended that I was 'looking for a Japanese girlfriend' - she thought I meant anyone would do, which is not the case."
that's that famous female double standard again... :(
i think it meant (to her) that a brother was looking to get naked real quick
would like to add that chinese/korean people can read this shirt (or know their version of the kanji/hanzi, etc. enough to be offended by it)
after the other episode, i says "oh well, can't wear this shirt in japan! will wear it in america, when no japanese are around... shame to waste $15... shirt still looks nice... man, its shrink proof cotton!"
was riding around, it's saturday, so i stops at this bank because i know a teller (frequently practicing my mandarin - she is Chinese) that works there
walks into the bank...
she sees me... eyes get bigger... but then shrieks in broken english "don't come here!!!"
and she meant it! she said it repeatedly
the other cashiers are like "we don't know what's going on, but he ain't got no gun, so its between yawl two!"
"that shirt is disrespectful! don't come here!"
"why?" i kept asking
all she would do is shake her head and say, "it's just disrespectful!"
while i was waiting for somebody to cash the check (too late to leave and go to another bank or i would have), she GIVES UP and and LETS me walk forward to cash it.
while doing the transaction she starts coughing and tells me
"see... you and that shirt is making me sick..."
that was two months ago. i ain't been back at that bank yet
and i ain't going to go either
that shirt is in the bottom of the clothes bin now
i thought about putting it in a burlap bag and throwing it in the river with some cement blocks attached to it...

HAHA! I have one of those, and I love the fact that people get offended by it... I have seen people reading it lately (only really wear tshirts visibly in summer) but we don't really have much Japanese people here.. I think the teller at a local convenience stroe could read it though (I suspect she's Korean) she seemed more miffed when I came in with my "Women are inferior, respect men" shirt though...(also kanji).
What's the point with living if you can't jolt a reaction from people?
Do these people really seriously think I wear these shirts so that any Japanese girls that might be walking by will come up to me and go "I see you're looking for a japanese girlfriend... where do I apply?" ?
I'm no dumber than being able to realise it'll most certainly do the opposite.
I mean seriously?... I do it because I think it's hillarious. If people are offended.. BOOM! trap sprung.
And that chinese chick was just being envious because it said Japanese, not CHinese... she can't handle all the love the Japanese are getting while everyone hates on the chinese.

Go to this site for the "Looking for a Japanese Girlfriend (http://www.jlist.com/index.html)" t-shirt. You'll see it listed as the most popular t-shirt for sale.

I can't help it...that is funny. The whole post is funny.
I don't see what the big deal is either, Mac.

Ah, that Chinese bank teller story made me laugh :-) Yeah, she was probably jealous haha "I don't see why I'm not in high demand too!" poor girl. Well, that's interesting to hear, I think I'd still be scared to wear that shirt though; granted, the reaction among men may be different... *shrugs*
Today I wore a shirt that has a sign picture of a guy and girl on a train and the girl touching the guy's butt and it says "Beware of Women Perverts Too" in Kanji and some Hiragana at the bottom telling men to be careful, And even though were I live, there're aren't much Japanese or Chinese, I was at the airport today and the Asians at Heathrow were reading my shirt with mixed expessions haha!
But Mac, like you said, that's one of the points of wearing provocative shirts eh? The reactions are great... :D

JREF is currently considering making such tshirts. They could be available within 1 or 2 months.

Most Japanese I talked to said they thought any kanji based shirts were just odd on foreigners.
But then some of the engrish they wear on shirts is horrid.
"the reaction among men may be different..."
if the wearer of the shirt is female, they would care if they were attracted (to the wearer of the shirt)
otherwise they be like meh
but women get jealous over men they don't even want (ime)
