I found this awesome sound clip of what happens on the intercom when the train arrives at the Yamanote loop line in Tokyo. Just curious...could anyone tell me what these guys are saying?

P.S. - I could listen to that tune all day. :-)

Pretty much all the lines in Tokyo and the surrounding areas play tunes to announce arriving/departing trains. From memory, when I lived in Saitama my favorite was always the Musashino line which I used to catch from Minami Koshigaya to Minami Urawa. It used to play (and probably still does) an absolutely delightful arrangement of "Moon River" which could almost bring a tear to the eye. Oh happy days!

Actually by luck I just found a page which has a bunch of these melodies on it (I'm sure there are others). Sadly it only appears to have departing melodies - the arriving ones were much more beautiful.

when you memorize all 334 鉄道唱歌 tetsudo shouka, or railway songs, your Japanese skill and knowledge on geograpy of Japan exceeds avarage Japanese. :)
Some lyrics would sound a bit old-fashioned, for the songs were written 100yrs ago. But the melody is very catchy.

Click 演奏 and you can listen the melody.

The 6th song is for my hometown, Kamakura.
