Hi. I'm doing research for a project I'm working on.

I wrote a few open ended questions that I think will be very useful for this research. I hope you'll find any answers interesting as well.

I'm mostly curious about the answers regarding Asian and Japanese culture, but I welcome any answers. Please consider these questions and share your thoughts. Thanks

1. What character(s) (real or fictional) are really interesting/fascinating/intriguing to you and why?

2. What quirks or small flaws do you find charming or endearing in people? In the opposite sex?

3. What actress(es) do you really like and why?

4. What girl(s) (real or fictional, movie character, video game) do you find very attractive/cute/beautiful/enchanting and why? (Consider looks and personality either separately or together)

5. What band(s)/singer(s) do you really like and why?

6. What song(s) do you really like? What songs make you feel strong emotions? Why?

I'm a bit confused. You're mostly interested in people who answer giving Japanese examples?

Any answer is fine, I just thought the perspective of this board would be helpful.

Is this a social project or a psychological project you are doing? Just curious

1. What character(s) (real or fictional) are really interesting/fascinating/intriguing to you and why?

-Shinji Ikari, from the anime Neon Genesis Evangelion. First, we have to consider the context: the director, Hideaki Anno, was interested in the psychological makeup of his characters. While writing this mecha anime, he ultimately shows a boy whose reactions to the situations around him as all too realistic. Shinji runs away from his responsibility, afraid of its magnitude and having the fate of others' lives in his own hands; he screams for help when in a life-or-death situation; he constantly looks for acceptance; he begs his father for help despite his hatred of him (my favorite little touch). In essence, he proves his humanness. He is believable because, for the most part, he is a reflection of us in these kinds of situations. These actions are in sharp contrast to other overly sanguine characters in other anime: cardboard-flat, heroic figures who unfailingly step up to save the day no matter the situation. While other directors may try to round out their characters, it's in Shinji's case that we really see the complexities up close (especially when contrasted against the backdrop of a conventionally "childish" media- anime).

2. What quirks or small flaws do you find charming or endearing in people? In the opposite sex?

-n/a

3. What actress(es) do you really like and why?

-N/a

4. What girl(s) (real or fictional, movie character, video game) do you find very attractive/cute/beautiful/enchanting and why? (Consider looks and personality either separately or together)

-n/a (it'd take too long!)

5. What band(s)/singer(s) do you really like and why?

-L'arc en Ciel is high on my list, due to their innovations in style and the quality of every component of their pieces, from the vocals to the tiniest detail in synths. While I don't personally like each and every one of their songs, I can appreciate the quality of just about everything they've turned out.

Risa Ohki is a marvelous singer. She has strong vocals in the female vocal range that I'm a bit biased towards.

Paris Match is a great soft jazz band. The compositions are rich and every little piece fits.

Utada Hikaru's compositions are also very rich, even though I'm not much of an urban music fan.

6. What song(s) do you really like? What songs make you feel strong emotions? Why?

-Always changing, so n/a

Good luck on your research, and let us know when you've got its finished product!

Neon Geneisis Evangelion is one of the best anime i have seen in awhile (even though its old school)... That was definitely one thought provoking anime's... very deep...

I like Utada Hikaru's compositions... I was first introduced to him earlier this year by one of my classmates who was doing a project translating his songs to english...
