According to the news here in Maine tonight, all Japanese learn what happened here in building 86 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in their history lessons. Sept. 5th, 1905, our US President, Teddy R. , arranged a meeting that saved a lot of Japanese lives.
Anyone want to guess what took place??

Ole TR negotiated a treaty between the Japanese and the Russians to win the Nobel Peace Prize....I'm guessing that is what you are talking about.
However, I am not privy to the saving Japanese lives part of the story....

I guess they figured by ending the war early between Russia & Japan, many thousands of lives were saved on both sides. One of those figures you can only guesstamate I guess.

Frank... Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. Maine.

I was all set to blast you... Portsmouth, New Hampshire, right?

Wrong-ooooo, my buzzard lips! Its exactly where you said it was!

Southern tip of Maine, right across the water from.... drum roll... Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

I believe it is on the road up to Portland Maine, where I spent some time in my younger days! Great country, great beaches.

Except for beautiful, beautiful wooded country, and wonderful people, besides that trivia piece from history... what ELSE has happened in Maine in the last 100 years?
