Free whale meat for all at Japan ocean festival

SHIMONOSEKI, Japan, April 13 — Hiroshi Goto reveres whales for their awesome size and because Japanese folklore says they bring prosperity and good luck. He also loves to eat them.

Whaling ships on display at Nagasaki port

Two Japanese ships that returned from a "research whaling" voyage in the Antarctic Ocean were put on display Saturday at the port of Nagasaki in southwestern Japan.

The 7,575-ton Nisshin Maru, the lead ship, and the 720-ton Yushin Maru, a visual observation ship, will also be exhibited Sunday. The display is a part of the Nagasaki whales festival organized by the Institute of Cetacean Research, a Tokyo-based organization leading Japan's research whaling operation.
