i didn't see any thread for this particular manga..so i thought i might as well start one :-)

so has anyone read this manga? i have, and i must say it is one of the best i've read so far. i think the story is quite original and the idea of genius vs genius is very interesting.

my favorite characters are L and Near, but mostly L :p

I really like the whole idea, although it IS a little scary. But when I started reading, I just couldn't stop. The art is amazing :bow: and story is *whoa*

And those mind-games that Raito and L are playing with each other ... I have to admit, that sometimes I felt dumb, because i couldn't follow their plans *heh*

The first part (till ch58 - ifyouknowwhatimean) is amazing!, but from there on, there's more action.

In short -> this manga is magnificent! You won't regret reading it.

Old thread, I know, but I love this series. One of my friends got me into it at the beginning of the school year and I was a rather rabid reader until around chapter 58 when I became rather disappointed. :okashii: I've still read it, but I'm not enjoying it as much as I used to. M and N don't quite cut it and Raito has, well, become un-Raito-ish. I don't want to spoil anything for people.

i loved this manga too, even got my mom into reading it and she likes it. is it still really interesting after ch.58? i just stopped reading after the first part..i couldn't get over what happened >.<! and i didn't think i'd quite move on from there. i guess i'll give it another try

:souka: There's a game? I never would have imagined that it would get a game. The plot line seems a bit odd to have a video game for it, but that's probably just me. It makes sense though, most of the DN fans are rabid enough to get it. :blush:

@ Rika: I'm not too sure. It's interesting, but it's not the same. There's a certain amount of charm and franticness that the conflict between L and Raito brought that isn't there anymore. A lot of people were telling me that it gets better the more Near and Mello are allowed to develop as characters, but I still think that Raito has been deteriorating as a character.:okashii:

As amazing as this manga is, I would be rather disappointed if they made an anime out of it. I just get the feeling that they would do something completely wrong or deviate from the plot and have odd little sub plots as fillers with no real need for it. Although it is not that bad of an occurance, I still could never see this as an anime. I get the feeling they would ruin it as they ruined Rurouni Kenshin and Fullmetal Alchemist.:okashii:

Nothing horrid happens until chapter 58 which is around volume 7, I think. I'm not quite sure. :relief: I've read up to chapter 65 and that's around where it starts getting really interesting again. The rest is important, but it's just setting up the next section, so to speak.

If they do make it, it better have a kick-@ss soundtrack. :box: I know that it probably wouldn't be too far off the plot, but I've seen too many anime where the manga came first and was far better than the show.

hai hai! :haihai: in animes, they cut out the fun parts/little happenings from the manga because it wasn't important and doesn't affect the storyline. sadly, i like those parts a lot when i read the manga, but when i watched the anime, they didn't exist at all and skipped to the next plot. :mad: but anyway, it didn't really affect me and i equally like both of them.:-)

i'll be happy if deathnote has an anime. it will be even more famous and more ppl will know about it.:-)

How far have you read? I'm up to chapter 66, but that's as much as I have, I should probably go and get more. Hmm. I know there's up to chapter 91 translated by various people. I just haven't bothered to get it. :p

i watched first five episodes of anime.. never knew about it before (so obviously, never read manga, not watched movies)..
i really like how anime is done. and whole story, of course. interesting, (maybe some things are predictable, but ok).. dark.. music is great. i like the whole thing. now I'm waiting for sixth episode to be translated (my japanese is not so good).. so, i think I'll wait to anime to be finish before i watch movies... i guess there is a lot of difference, but i don't want to spoil it by watching movie and discovering what is going to happen, i guess.
anyway.. i highly recommend death note

I might have missed it, but I don't remember reading about what you (Cue-san) think of Death Note so far. I've been watching it since it first aired, and honestly, I haven't been this anxious to see a new episode every week since Bleach (before the filler arc started -.-;; ). I haven't read the manga, which is a plus - since I don't know what is going to happen. It's quite hard though, avoiding spoilers.. but so far I've managed to do it (although not completely :( ).

Watching and listening to each new episode every week definitely tests my ability to understand and learn Japanese. That's actually part of the fun. I was doing the same thing with Inuyasha when I was watching it everyday. I still have one episode I've been listening to about once a day for the past 3 years and there are still words I can't pick up.

Back to Death Note, it looks like there is one more episode next week and then there is a break. It won't air again until around Dec. 27th. I'll have to find something else to look forward to until then. :bawling:

I was a tad disappointed with the movie. (>_<) But I'm glad they got Matsuyama Kenichi to play the part of L. Without him, I'd have been bored to tears.

Pleased with the way the TV animation is going so far. They're not straying too far away from the original storyline, and everything seems to be in apple-pie order. Choice of seiyuu = good. Who would've thought I'd get to hear Miyano Mamoru's voice so soon after completing all 26 episodes of Ouran?

Yes, a sequel is coming. In it Light and L/Tezuki will be working together with the police to find Kira. It looks like there'll be plenty of tension as Light hides his identity. As the end of the first movie suggests, Misa (the idol chased by the crazy guy) will also team up with a new Shinigami, and become the new Kira. There are some trailers for the new moving on YouTube (no subtitles unfortunately). Just do a search for "Deathnote the last name" and you should be able to find it. It looks like the new movie should be pretty fun. :cool:
