Typing Japanese Characters

I'm trying to get this rotten keyboard to produce even one syllable of Japanese script and having no luck. (cut and paste works as it should.) Can someone direct me to a site that will explain how it is done? even a single katakana "a" would be nice.

My thanks, Takakoo. The two bits I needed are in, so as soon as I climb out of bed I'll get to looking at them. Is good to see kiwis around the place, even though they do talk with a funny accent.
